Betty Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes; Love this track. Will always remind me of a summer spent in California. We found her name on the Hollywood walk of fame (or whatever its called, its a horrible place with lookalikes badgering you like beggars for a dollar). My friend with particularly small hands fit perfectly into Betty Davis' hand-prints; Ever since, he and this have been known as Betty Davis Hands.

1st place and 18 points for
    MrKingsley

    Absolute CHOOON. Love her voice.
Bit of a bittersweet one for me as the memory I have connected with it involves someone I'd rather not think about (and I don't mean Bette Davis!) Still a brilliant song though.

Three top scores in a row is mad, well done MrKingsley; if you haven't chosen something completely ridiculous for the remaining two categories I think your odds on winning are *pretty* good.

Can only remember the video game one. What was the last one?

    Guilty pleasure, I think?
No idea what to expect for that one, it might end up with pj just giving out eighteen 1's. :p

My guilty pleasure has already aired.

Can't believe PJ doesn't know Paul Young, John Mellencamp and Chris Isaak!

Some massive tunes all told here!

(I love Paul Young's Love of the Common People - guilty pleasure).

    Great track REM are brilliant.

In the 80s all I listened to was what my mum listened to. Most of which I naturally rebelled against later but REM I always adored. First gig I ever went to, albeit mid-90s. Just look at the support...

I've never heard of Paul Young.

Too late to declare shenanigans for this whole thing?!

Wow I'd go for the support alone.

    ^^
One of their best, for me. Andy Kaufman was a comic genius, the movie of the same name is a must see too.

You need to see the documentary about Jim Carey making that film.

I think for those of us who do remember them, we're officially old. :pac:

No need to feel guilty about that, it's a great song.

First gig I ever went to was U2 in Croke Park in 1985. The very first support act on were REM - it was around the time of Radio Free Europe just starting to get airplay - and they were shockingly bad. It probably didn't help their performance that nobody really knew them and didn't pay a lot of attention to them.

As an indication of how little known they were at the time, the bands that came after them were In Tua Nua (a particular favourite of mine at the time, and only partly because I had a major crush on Leslie Dowdall :D), The Alarm (who were surprisingly excellent) and Squeeze (Jools Holland was just starting to make a name for himself on TV and basically tried to take over the show from the two main guys).

My first big gig were Simple Minds (hence my choice) 1986 and In Tua Nua were on the bill too as well as The Smith's.

My father worked for a company that sponsored the traffic news on some radio station at the time. They had a guy in a helicopter flying over Dublin reporting on the traffic, and my dad and brother got to go in the chopper one morning. The stage was being set up for Simple Minds in Croke Park, and apparently the pilot came in over the other end of the stadium, dropped to what they said felt like about 20 feet off the pitch and headed for the stage. Obviously he pulled up and went over the top of it in time, otherwise you would have had a different first gig. :D

It was a terribly stormy night at it turned out - the finale from Simple Minds was Don't you...with fork lightening across Croker and I nearly got squashed leaving the Stadium. So it was eventful enough - (low flying helicopter sounds scary)

Whereever I lay my hat - Paul Young; I've never heard of Paul Young. A bit cheesey on my first listen. Never fully warmed to it.

Had a flick through his most popular songs on Spotify... I don't recognise if any of them. Sure this was the point of the 80's category!
