Hi just looking for advice, I lived in Australia a few years ago and have been home since 2016. My bank account is closed over there but I had $600 of an overdraft I hadn’t paid. It was sold to a debt collectors but the account itself is closed. My partner and I are saving for a mortgage next year and this is freaking me out now. Will the banks go looking over there and find it?

    Hi Gulpy,

Thanks for getting in touch with us here today.

When you apply for a mortgage with us we will contact the Irish Credit Bureau and then assess your application. It would be best to contact the Irish Credit Bureau to see if the Australian bank has reported this over here. You could then take steps to pay off the loan and apply for a mortgage.

    Many thanks,
    Kat
