Lost Boys because my older brother was obsessed with it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,802 ✭✭✭bluefinger

Can't believe the shining is out!

Two here that wouldn't give you much of a fright.

Preferred the lost boys as a movie but Scream is better horror. The mask is great and scream has more of those moments that jolt you.

    Lost Boys obliterates Scream 6-1

Seems like the people's champion, can anything stop it?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,442 ✭✭✭Choc Chip

Scream for how much I originally loved it (opening, closing and garage scenes).

While I loved lost boys, I watched it long after it first came out and I didnt love it quite as much by then. Tough choice though. Sorry Kiefer. :(

I've just put on The Thing on Netflix, never saw it before but seems to be well liked here.

Aliens.it makes me want to sit up and beg for Buttermilk.

Aliens, that kitechen scene is brilliant.

spoilers for anyone who has not watched aliens. [do not watch this scene before watching whole film!!!!!!!!!!!!]

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Heres Johnny

Very, very tough between psycho and aliens. Both really excellent. I'll go aliens on this one. Dreamt about face huggers and chest busters for a while after that one. Face huggers probably the worst. Expect a close contest here

American Horror Story for tv show for me, genuinely terrified watching it and love how connected everything is

Seasons 1 and 2 were fantastic. And Roanoke was great, Freak Show was good also, and Witches and Hotel. The last 2 seasons were pretty awful tho, especially last season Apocalypse.

    Psycho getting steamrolled here.

5-0 to Aliens at the moment

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Heres Johnny

I voted against it but somebody give psycho the respect it deserves and not have it whitewashed!

    Aliens all the way

    legend of a film

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Tough choice but Aliens all the way .

Sigourney Weaver as Ripley was an eye opening powerful lead performance imo .

    I'll take it Vale.

    Aliens smashes Psycho.

Battle of the ancient classics coming up:

    182179.gif

    THE THING (1982)

    VS

    DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978)

    tumblr_ovxwzaxGJT1s1v3r1o1_400.gif

One will end up in the semis, the other gets dumped in the trash!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Heres Johnny

I'm watching the thing at the moment never saw it before only about 10 mins in so I have to sit this one out. Hope it wins meaning I've a good film on my hands

Psycho. Aliens is not imo a horror movie, it is a bombastic sci fi actioner, Alien is a horror but its sequel is not. Psycho was at the time something completely different, it explored themes like schizophrenia and the mother fixation and Anthony Perkins is infinitely more frightening than a rubber suit.

I should add, I absolutely love Aliens but in this specific topic it pales against Psycho.

Dawn just shades it for me however The Thing is a stone cold classic in it's own right. Dawn cemented the late, great, George A Romero as the godfather of zombie cinema, it continued its social commentary from Night, poking fun at the commercialisation of the States and peoples obsession with "stuff". Some wonderful effects work courtesy of Tom Savini and a cracking soundtrack from Goblin just tip this over the line for me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,215 ✭✭✭khalessi

The Thing for isolation suspense and did I mention Kurt Russel

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,442 ✭✭✭Choc Chip

Dawn of the dead. I do need to know where I get a shotgun to defend my shopping centre in the event of the zombie apocolypse...

I would have voted psycho. Sorry everyone - I got distracted watching nightcrawler. :(

the thing - like sitting in a room and any of us could be the thing, not that slow lumbering yoke we can just slow pace away from.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Heres Johnny

Is the thing a bit like aliens but in the middle of Antarctic instead of space?
Has that same 'we're trapped here with a murderous being' vibe going on so far, although it hasn't really got going yet they don't know what they're up against so far.

    Haven't seen either film

    Oh ****

    Dawn.
Because I let Society push the Thing off my list. So I'm doubling down

Tough battle, unlike our other quarters so far.

    Dawn leads 3-2 at present

Jaws - because they needed a bigger boat.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,442 ✭✭✭Choc Chip

    The ring.

Her nail peels off. Seriously. She creeps out of a TV. She terrified me for AGES.

    Please be the ring.

Jaws , because it's a classic at this point .

Jaws because its a great advertisement for spending bank holidays at the beach and its a classic

Ring as jaws is not... Wrll ye know the rest

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Heres Johnny

Jaws scared me as a kid and the ring scared me as an adult.
I'm sitting here home alone, off the drink because I stupidly agreed I'd run a marathon with the girlfriend in October, she's on holidays. I'd happily watch Jaws and not bat an eyelid, it's a great film but it won't scare me any more. I'm not going to be eaten by a shark now am I?
But no fkin way would I watch the ring.
For that reason, the ring gets my vote. Its a horror film that has scared me and stuck with me, one of the very few.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,442 ✭✭✭Choc Chip

I used to fall asleep watching movies and I watched the ring LOADS. I still get flashbacks to that bit in the credits where the nail PEELS off.

I love movies that scare me.

I know I cant vote again, but i love that movie.

Jaws wins. Ring is creepy but can't go swimming to do this day without wondering if sharks might be nearby. Haven't watched vhs in years.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Heres Johnny

For what it's worth, 3 movies I wouldn't watch before bedtime are the ring, the exorcist and It Follows. They really got to me.

Jesus CC i used to do that too but i never tried it with horror movies thats the stuff of nightmares, :)

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 53,174 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Tough battle again, Jaws winning 5-3 atm.

Still outstanding is Dawn of the Dead and The Thing, deadlocked at 3-3 currently.

Jaws because it put me off swimming in the sea for far too long than I'd like to admit

See - so we shouldn't vote jaws because it negatively impacted on worldwide perception of sharks, increased irrational fear of them and human overreaction to their presence. Jaws killed sharks (I've actually heard that's true, but I've also been drinking).

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 53,174 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

And PJ sounds the death knell for The Ring.

Jaws is the 6-3 victor after a tight battle with The Ring. Sayonara Samara.
