If he goes to the other room to put on football, its a horror.

Also, Mick is still right about Sean of the dead. Sorry qb! ;)

Show me the way to go
I'm tired and I wanna go to bed
    I had a little drink
    and it's gone straight
    to my head
    Where ever I may roam
on land or sea or form
    You can always hear me
    singing a song
Show me the way to your home
    Wher ever I may roam
On land or sea or form
well he can always hear me
    singing a song
Show me a way in your home
    I gotta go home
    Just point me home

I do see Jaws as a horror but just thinking I don't see Jurassic Park as one?!

I just realised I forgot about Gremlins!!

Edit: sorry just saw that post from Mick!

    Whats the fiction?

You think Jaws is a true story??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,220 ✭✭✭Jurgen The German

Cabin though I loved it is not a horror movie, never mind the fact Dawn is imo the second best zombie movie ever made. Dawn wins that one easily.

Jaws vs 28DL is a tough one. Jaws absolutely is a horror movie however so is 28DL. Jaws is a simple idea and plays on a real human fear and is something that could happen. 28DL could conceivably happen too given but its still a bit in the sci fi realm, for that reason Jaws edge it, only just mind.

    No he's not. It's a horror comedy.

    Aliens is a horror action.

    Genres can mix!

The problem with Jurassic Park is that as s theme park it lacks the insidious horror of creeping additional costs for remote queuing, premium passes, refillable drinks, jeyfobs and photos... They're quite direct about how they're going to kill you, so it seems quite whimsical

The story that Quint tells certainly is true. And the inspiration for the book is very loosely based on a series of shark attacks New Jersey 1916

    Is jurassic park a horror

Nope. Going by my husband test it's not.

Serious answer: Jaws is a horror for me - it's trying to scare you. Jurassic park doesn't have that as its primary objective, its just heightened dramatic tension.

You cant say any film with a bit of a thrill is a horror (in my opinion).

28 days jaws is not a horror movie

Cabin in the woods as it's a really cool take on the horror genre

What's your definition of a horror movie?

They can, but I still disagree that Sean of the dead ever intended to scare me. If it never intended to scare, shock or startle me, how is it a horror?

Izombie has zombies but it's far from a horror.

Dawn of the Dead leads 5-4.

Giving it another while, but would you like another two movies to debate while we wait for a deciding/tying vote(s)?

Horrors don't have to have supernatural elements.

Lots of horrors are just based on "possible" events.

You're right that horror /= thriller.

But there is a lot of cases where there is crossover.

Ditto, plenty of horror films aren't that scary. It doesn't mean they're not horrors.

It is subjective and there's no definitive answer though. But debate is fun.

Precisely, Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer for example, a gritty, grimey and very real look into the mind of a murderer.

    Cabin

Jaws has dispatched 28 days already unfortunately for you

Easy peasy! Psycho is a knock-out classic!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,220 ✭✭✭Jurgen The German

Psycho, it's one of the genre daddy's and arguably the first slasher movie (though there isn't any actual on screen slashing). I never cared for EH and still dont know why its held in such high regard by so many.

Event Horizon: Great mystery, Good tension, horrific hell scene, evil ship.

Psycho: great theme tune, Good plot, great ending.

    Event Horizon for me.

Not gonna lie. I put Jaws forward. I Googled horror films and it was amongst the first 20 or so that Google listed. I was surprised it fell under that genre.

What horror films aren't scary?! That's the whole point of them!

I'm off to recheck a definition now cos if they're not trying to scare you, I don't agree they're horror.

And I do like debate. :)

    Zombieland wasn't scary (to me).

    Psycho ,
For forever giving me an intense dislike of shower curtains...

    Psycho!

For a film without a lot of gore, its terrifying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,808 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

Still think the TV series, The Haunting of Hill House, is far better than most of these films :D

From my spreadsheet, other horrors, I didn't find particularly scary:

    The Craft
    Fright Night (both of them)
    From Dusk till Dawn
    Grabbers
    10 Cloverfield Lane
    Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil
    The Wicker Man

I was going to use that as another example of a zombie comedy rather than a horror earlier. I don't think that's a horror at all. Black sheep is similar - funny not scary. :)

No, as it's a TV series and not a film

It's on Netflix, about 10 episodes. One of the best shows of recent times.

Event horizon. Psyvjos capacity to scare was spoiled by how imitated it was and how the medium progressed.
