The two roonies fork-handles/four candles joke wouldn’t have been as timeless if ‘‘twas called a grape or a sprong.

No one mentioned a pike yet

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,511 ✭✭✭✭whelan2

They robbed that from boards at the time

Had the cows out for a half a day on a field while the shed was being cleaned out a short time ago.
Anyways today I did a bit of a grass walk and anywhere there's dungpats they were covered with dungflies. Jeez it'd make you think it was summertime. :pac:

    I'm confused now :

Here the four prong is a dung fork, the 3 prong is a silage fork and the 2 prong is a hayfork. All with rounded tines.

    We have
Two long prongs = fork (or pitch fork)
Two short prongs = bale fork
    Four long prongs = grape

We’ve never had a three pronged anything here, I think I’ve never even seen one for sale in a stores locally.

4 prong fork is a pitch fork around these parts.......never heard of a grape..

    We have;
Two long prongs = hay pike
Two short prongs = bale pike
Four long prongs = dung fork

Three prongs is fairly new here but I call it a silage fork. It really is much easier to use with silage, esp bales.

I think Whelans new impliment must have four square section tines, each 5 or 6 mm square.
What we know ( in this end of Cavan) as a "garden graipe".
Usually with T or Y end on the handle.

    And in my zone:
    Two long prongs = fork
Two short prongs = hay fork
    Four prongs = sprang

Around here it's a four grain fork or dung fork.

And a two grain fork or pitch fork.

The three grain fork is something we never had so I dunno what it'd be called.
