Very clean and grey looking most rats I have seen are browner colour and don't like to feed in the open. Looks like a scam to me

Tagging cows today with a relative before the vet came for his herd test. He's putting the tags on the tagger and I tell him to make sure he doesnt mix them up. Hands it to me and I tag away. Sure enough, two different tags. No way in hell could I pull them apart. Had to snip it off. He had to order the 2 tags again. He'll check them right in future.

Happened one time tagging calves- brother decided he knew everything and took control just fired out tags and they were all over the gaff. Took me a fair few months as had to order a set for some calves. The beef genomics would have picked it up as wrong. Lucky I’ve only a few cows.

Scanned the cattle yesterday. 12/15 in calf. Three 5 stars not in calf- one is old and she had mastitis so understandable. Rexkon the other two wouldn’t be showing yet. For the beam scheme I’ve to drop to 12 cows.

But how are you for the GDGP requirement
Trying to comply with all requirements is going to be hard for some farmers

I should be just ok, all depends on genotyping- I need 7 and I have 7, loosing 3 and I should have 5 more coming on board between heifer calves and two speckle parks I bought off a dairy herd.

It’s a balls of a scheme. A lot of my cows dropped for genotyping a few years back and are back up to 4/5 now but not eligible for the scheme.

Lots saying the 4/5 stars aren’t delivering and would be first dropped for BEAM but is 50% reference number to be 4/5star next year

Yes 50% genotyped 4/5 star over 16months on oct 31st next year.

So bgdp could dictate the reduction of what for beam.

The scheme definitely wasn’t worth the grant

Do you use A.I or bull to get the cows incalf ?

This year 100% stock bull. The 3 that are not in calf had issues.

1 lost a quarter to mastitis this year and she calved late also.

1 had twins in June and held onto her cleaning, had to get the vet to clean her out.

1 is a first time calver and calved in July. She might not be showing yet.

The rest have gained a few weeks. Last year in the heat, some lost months.

I had to coil a few last year and the year before and AIed exactly but the heifer calves came from the bull and the bull calves held from AI bulls.

I sent samples for genotyping at the end of June, surely I should have results by now?
