Please report that PM so the sender can be banned and the IP potentially blocked.

    Already a thread on this.

Thread moved to the Help Desk.

Boards is experiencing a spam attack at the moment, with lots of users receiving unsolicited messages.

The tech team are working on a solution, but in the meantime, please don't click on any of the links.

So today I got a scam email wanting me to view nude pictures of the sender. of course I did not click on any links but the strange thing is that the sender was shown as boards.ie. it was sent to an old email address that was compromised in a data breach several years ago. I am new to boards.ie so my question is how does an email appear to be sent from boards.ie

I didn't realise you can use the site to send out emails and I am presuming that this must have been sent to the whole list of compromised email addresses and not to me in particular.

Any helpful information would be welcome.

The site came under some form of attack yesterday with people receiving PM's from new accounts and others may have received emails. I understand it is now under control and there might be an announcement shortly. Don't click on any links.

Ok thank you. Where do I go to receive updates on the progress of your investigation.

I don't have an active role to play in this as I'm just a volunteer mod on the site. I'm not sure what if any type of investigation will be made but if you have any further concerns then first of all see the post by Boards full time employee, Mark, here and then if necessary ask a question there. Hope that helps

    Hi Anna,

I’ve merged your thread into a pre-existing thread as it relates to the same topic.

Last night Boards experienced a wave of new account sign ups who soon starting spam PMs. The PM would have triggered an automated email notification.

The tech team have done great work to delete & remove these spam PMs, but we cannot delete the emails that users have received. Hence, you are seeing a email but there is no private message.

Obviously it goes without saying that you should not click on any links in the PM.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions.

    Hi doughef,

Could you please PM me with the text of the email? This should include a username, which would be associated with that email address.

I got those nude cosplay messages too and every time I enter boards.ie I get a page saying my browser is being checked.

Is that boards.ie ensuring I'm not a spammer?

Okay, I just wanted to be sure it was safe to be on the site. ;)

The site itself is fine, it's the links to an external site being sent via spam PMs that can't be trusted.

@linpoo - I’ve moved your thread to the Help Desk and merged it with the existing thrasconnthis topic.

We’ve had another wave of these spam PMs overnight. The guys will clean it up once they hit the office and we’ll continue to work on preventing these muppets.

Today, I received the same type of message. I attach copies for the attention of Boards.ie.
User abusing account needs to be deleted.

I got the same picture but user siara19

Most important thing is NOT to click on the link. Report the PM by clicking on the little triangle at the top right of the message
