    Hi Folks,

Familiar with Wicklow Main Street but not too familiar with any walks around Wicklow town or close by?

    Any advice on nice/scenic walks?

    Thanks

There's one local to you, that website has a list of walks in Wicklow, depending on what you consider close by you should be able to find a few more.

I'll second the Wicklow Head cliff walk. Trail is a bit muddy/slippery in places, so bring good footwear.

Another option is heading north on the Murrough. Coastal walk, scenery isn't quite as nice as the cliff walk, but nice. Although the trail itself is level, the ground you'll be walking on isn't a footpath. Little lumpy in places.

    Some more, further afield...

Mount Usher in Ashford. Tad expensive, but nice place, very relaxed:

Devil's Glen is nice, maybe a 20 minute drive from Wicklow Town:

    Djouce Woods is great too:

Sugar Loaf. Bit of a climb at the end to get to the top of the mountain, but excellent views when you get there:

    Bray Cliff Walk is great:

You must have been to Glendalough? Everyone has! ;)

As per above the cliff walk is the best one - especially from September on when you are likely to encounter seals on the beach at lime kiln bay.

Other options nearby - there are some lovely walks in the hills and woods surrounding Glenealy village (5miles/10 minutes drive) + deputys pass nature reserve is very close also.

Magheramore beach just south of wicklow town is a lovely beach for a short walk and paddle.

    Never knew about that.

Checking on google maps just now. In street view there's a barrier across the entrance, but looks like some parking at the side of the road. So just park the car and walk down? It's not a private road or anything?

I don't think it is a private road - there are two houses up further and I think the barrier is to prevent cars parking on the track there and blocking their access. No problem walking down the road.

It's a lovely beach - well worth the visit.

Parking is available at the side of the road, just park and then walk down the track. But the roadside parking tends to fill up fast - but no worry as an enterprising local has opened his field for an overflow car park, for a fiver!
