I agree, we are too greedy to change. I just don't understand why anyone trying to fight against the current tide is ridiculed so much. They're not harming anyone are they? Greta etc.

Because it will end up with Governments doing only one thing - implementing another useless climate tax that we have to pay.

It will not solve the problem or even lead us down a path to really dealing with the problem.

Well that's our governments fault isn't it? We live in a democracy, you can vote for who you think will do a better job.

Papa grande, you seem to fairly well informed on all this

You any idea why corals are suffering so much around the world or is that all horse**** too?

The problem with catastrophic anthropogenic global warming (CAGW) hypothesis is the propaganda is so pervasive that you mostly get to read or see anything that complies with the eco-catastrophism narrative so any natural event gets tied in with Climate change (except when it is cold then it's just weather). This is the case with the coral reef in Australia which is not being harmed by CAGW and you can read up on the case of Peter Ridd who was sacked for not towing the line on the health of the great barrier reef corals. He won his case in court, it does highlight how much pressure researchers are under to comply and they must suppress information that contradicts the narrative, which is why there are so few scientists willing to risk their livelihoods.

That's not to say there is not a problem affecting some corrals like in Thailand where the corals in some parts have been destroyed by pollution caused by tourism.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

    Thanks for that.

Barrier reef was the example i was thinking of when watching docs that showed dead coral. It was blamed on the usual suspect but then i thought could it be that coral have natural life expectency or something else.

I might tweet greta and ask her anyway for assurance

They won’t mind piling on the Green taxes mind .

Politicians love taxes especially taxes that can be justified by the Greens waffle .

As I've said before climate change is just a vehicle of convenience to which several disparate groups have attached themselves.

I like to colour the people involved along a spectrum of green. On the dark green end of the spectrum you have the neo-maltusians, neo-eugenicists and others who see humans as parasites on earth and want the human population reduced of course they see themselves are enlightened and not subject to their own ideology.

The middle of the spectrum who rally under the moniker "climate justice" see international socialism under the auspices of the UN and income redistribution with power in their hands as members of the enlightened class , to the light green end of the spectrum that just wants a nice clean safe environment without doing anything but virtue signalling as observed by the late George Carlin " [..] environmentalists don’t give a **** about the planet. Not in the abstract they don’t. You know what they’re interested in? A clean place to live. Their own habitat. They’re worried that some day in the future they might be personally inconvenienced. Narrow, unenlightened self-interest doesn’t impress me.".

There is the dollar green part of the spectrum under "climate finance" whose only real concern is financial, the cause is just a convenient vehicle for them, watch them they go around the world in private jets while telling us plebeians to use public transport and bicycles, while they finagle the system to optimise the tax they pay while lobbying for more tax payer funded dollars.

There are the ideologically pure people like Greta who get sucked into this, they are the useful idiots to the people across the spectrum I have outlined above. They are not doing anything evil and some of them may actually be able to improve the environment for themselves and others and good luck to them.

CAGW is politicised science, it always will be a rent seekers paradise.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

Ye it was brought up previously in this thread. She is a proven hypocrite who lives in her own world.

I'll probably get shot down for that because she has autism

I think 50% of Samsungs are now manufactured in Vietnam - so it's possible :)

And if she lived in a cave and shunned all the trappings of modern society youd all call her a freak. How long are you guys going to keep this thread going patting yourselves on the back for outwitting a 16 year old girl?

I've actually been looking at those solar panels for camping - they are cool aren't they. I'm addicted to my devices :)

You're right though the power on the yacht was from the sun I think from what I read.

You are just arguing she is not hard core enough. If you want to see what the dark green end of the spectrum looks like meet Pentti Linkola.

To be fair, taking a yacht across the atlantic (where those operating it are getting a flight back) in the name of 0 emissions etc and still using a phone/laptops manufactured in asia would make her one anyways.

This thread is hovering mostly around step 1/2 here.

    Poster A: *Presents solutions*
Poster B in reply to A: Well, what are the solutions then? rolleyes.png

The denialists aims, in order of priority, are to:
1: Avoid discussing climate change altogether - divert the topic into anything other than this (such as alleged hypocrisy of Greta).

2: If they have to talk about it, debate whether or not it's an actual real problem (with a bias towards stating it's not a problem), instead of debating it is a real/valid issue.

3: If they have to acknowledge it as a real issue, pretend there are no solutions - if faced with actual solutions, continue saying "there are no solutions" as if nothing was said, with the unstated position behind that being "that disagrees with my political/ideological views so I'm going to lie and pretend no solutions were presented"

4: If they have to debate solutions, keep the discussion at a microscopic level, debating heatedly, individual solutions to very minor/individual issues that do not tackle the big picture.

5: If any solutions tackle the macroeconomic problems, persistently declare them as impractical/impossible (because this is the heart of the debate, the danger zone that threatens the interests of the powerful/wealthy) - divide posters along ideological lines - and bring it all the way down to Capitalist vs Communist dog whistling and howling, persistently painting posters into views they don't subscribe to.

    It's a bloody tired script.

This thread reads like people have swallowed the script from oil-oligarch think tanks with a proven track record for all varieties of science denialism, especially global warming - where such people will then spin conspiracy theories about climate scientists being the ones with a vast network of oligarch funded think tanks, as well as being part of a vast international Communist conspiracy (because Ireland is full of Communists, don't you know?...).

The way the fucking forum is run, plays right into the hands of that kind of bullshit, as well - letting it gradually take over.

When people where asked to put forward proven solutions nobody did or any solution they did was rebuked with inaccuracies in their said solution

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,314 ✭✭✭KyussB

That simply isn't true - people just tried to drag the debate back down from step 5 in my post above, to step 4 - an entire soluton to the core macroeconomic problems was being put forward (putting together, funding and mobilizing huge amounts of labour/resources to fight climate change), with people pretending there was nothing that could be done to wield that macroeconomic power productively, to fight climate change.

That comic strip is rendered useless when someone is literally taking a boat across the atlantic in the name of 0 emissions which is not 0 emissions because the other lads in the boat are getting a plane sent over for them...

How ironic...talking about the damage climate change is doing to the reef while how many emissions were caused by people travelling to see the reefs?

That's it, let's take Gretas yacht and go to Australia.
