Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Removing chimney breast on Party Wall

Looking to have a chimney breast removed on a party wall in a victorian terraced house as part of a refurbishment job also including an attic conversion.
Currently in the process of appointing an engineer, but in the meantime, does anyone know what this would typically consist of?
Would it usually be a case of supporting the chimney brickwork with a steel at attic level, and then removing the chimney breast brickwork at ground and first floor level?
Or would there generally be a need for additional buttressing to the wall at ground and first floor level?

At what height in the attic level would the steel be inserted?

Obviously these are all things I'll be discussing in a few weeks with a qualified engineer, but I'm just trying to get an idea in my head as to what work would be required and how it would affect other plans.

It depends on the existing build up of the house and where the bearing for the steel can be got.

We would be only guessing without seeing the arrangements on site.
