The difference is in the latter you have two adults

I think you are missing the point. We define mental illness on the basis that the issue causes a person harm. Homosexuals certainly can struggle with being gay for a variety of reasons, and I'm sure many pedophiles do as well for similar reasons. Both conditions can be defined or non-defined as a mental illness for the exact same reasons.

Christ on a bike...are ye all for real? A Paedophile= attracted to kids= wants to have sex with kids=bad person.
They don't deserve any sympathetic ears...and PS anyone attracted to a "pretty young WOMAN" is not a paedophile.

So what about the pedophiles who resist their urges to have sexual relations with pre pubescent children? Are they bad people..?

Are pedohiles bad just for having an attraction?

Yes. Being sexually attracted to children makes you a bad person. Thise who dont act on it and volounteer for chemical castration could be the only ‘less bad’ ones.

except being gay isn't defined as a mental illness by actual doctors so i will go with what they say.

Mod: There is far more to the definition of mental illness than that which you have described, and out of context, what you have stated reads very poorly. Looking at your previous post, I think I get the just of what you are trying to say, but be very careful where this analogy goes, lest you end up looking like you are bundling homosexuality and paedophelia in the same category.

A person's sexuality/orientation can absolutely have an effect (negative) on their mental well-being....I think this is the point

Being an adult and being sexually attracted to children is a sexual orientation.

It is no different than other sexual orientations....

Heterosexua/gay/bi and whatever else people display/exhibit/identify as....

  • Registered Users Posts: 56,370 ✭✭✭✭walshb

    Yes

    Ok

This is the issue I have...

So, they are born bad, then? And anything they do in their lives is kind of erased, because for all the good they can/could/do do, their attraction to pre-pubescent children (an attraction they did not choose or have no real control over) means that they are labeled bad, end of......

Yer into thought crime territory there though.

sexual orientation in an of itself does not have an effect on mental well-being. It is how their sexual orientation is perceived by society at large and how this can lead to self-isolation and poor self-image in the person that has a negative effect on mental well-being.

Agreed. This is what I meant....

In a perfect world where anything goes and there is no ill feelings and bias and prejudice and hate and contempt etc, people would be free to be who they want to be, and happy...within the laws of the land, of course....

It should be possible to say "white lives matter" without it being racist.

White pride is not inherently racist. Just because you like one thing doesn't mean you hate everything else.

Racism will only end when everyone is given equal rights like this.

Bo**ox to Black Lives Matter. Life is life and there should be no distinction drawn.

    Bo**ox to Covid 19

    Bo**ox to Brexit.

    1. You're not making them properly!

    2. Why not both?

    Conspiracies can and do exist.

Whether some of the wackier ones exist or not is a different matter.

Cover ups take place. Some people, places and things are not what they seem.

Well we put it this way :

Somebody with sexual desires for children comes forward and is chemically castrated and put on a public list - alright , no harm no foul. That person ever gets caught with child porn and they get 3 years per incident.

However they choose not to come forward for castration and it would be 20 years minimum mandatory if found with child porn or a 60 year life sentence for abusing a child.

Id obviously like the death penalty to be an option for this but sadly the workd has gone too soft on this which has allowed paedos to flourish.

Virtual signalling and/or wokeness is a real problem for political and civil life in Ireland - it's not just a trendy throw away insult. So much so that meaningful action to address social imbalances are not actioned upon.

The virtual signaller is too busy trying to spread themselves thinly to ensure every cause is "covered" rather than focussing on an actionable issue.

+1 Advertisers and political parties interest have sadly aligned to create this problem. Itll be unpopular but I would go as far as to say if the unemployed and women couldnt vote there would be none of this.

Its all about using emotions and targetting those who emotional pleas are most effective against, the low hanging fruit.

Apologies if it has appeared earlier but GAA as an 'elite' sport. It is now packaged and presented as if it is the pinnacle of sorting achievement and this great amateur endeavour. It is only played in Ireland and where there are Irish abroad.

Because of its origins it is pushed forward as such an integral part of our history and therefore beyond criticism. Don't get me going either on the 'it's who we are' adverts.

If I had the option, All Ireland Final tickets or Liverpool v Man Utd, I'd be taking the beautiful game.

I reckon that's an unpopular opinion, or is it?

I am going to hazard a guess and suggest that you have never been to an AI final when your county was playing. Liverpool and ManU play each other several times a year. Nothing special.

hmmm, can only really label a person as "bad" though by their actions.

Yes. One of my unpopular opinions.

Heap of pretend supporters who almost have to be seen to support it because it’s so Irish.

People can be very funny when it comes to identity and nationality.

I am Irish. Proud as well. But never feel the urge to go on about it the way others do.

And have no problem not giving a toss about certain Irish things, like the wasted and dead language, for example..

Maybe it’s me, but Irish people seem obsessed with being liked and approved, and thought of as great craic and great people..

Just be Irish and stfu, sometimes!!

    100 percent.

Pedophiles are people. Like gay, straight, bi or whatever..

They are capable of being kind and caring and thoughtful and gentle and principled and law abiding and all the other good traits that people possess.

    Because they are people...

And Gaelic football is played every minute of the poxy day. They finish one tournament and it’s another. Divisions after divisions after clubs and counties and inter counties snd juniors and on and. It’s the most ridiculously overplayed and oversaturated sport on earth...same heads playing each other at the same game non stop!

At least our winners win the All-Ireland and not the World Championship like the American folk.

I'm pretty sure more countries take part in the All-Ireland than the World Championship in some sports in the US.

I know you didn't mention American sports at all but it's something that bugs me.
