FF and FG are both centre right, though. I know on this forum that'd make them "extreme far left" but please, for once, just give it up. I know right wingers are all but immune to criticising their own but you can only deny reality for so long before other people get tired of it.

FF and FG are centrist parties with policies leaning one degree either side of the spectrum, they're not right wing at all.

They're both broadly categorised as having conservative ideologies so I honestly don't know what else to say. Just because they're not right wing enough for you doesn't change the fact that they are, broadly, centre right. And they're the two largest parties in the state. Now parties like the National(ist Socialist Workers) Party may be irrelevant but so are any parties that're commensurately left wing. That doesn't change the fact that the far right have been out on the streets of Dublin holding rallies, repeatedly.

I know a lot of people here have a personal investment in ensuring the idea that the far right doesn't 'really' exist takes hold but the rhetoric is getting just a little bit ****ing old hat, now.

both parties ( especially FF ) tout increased spending over tax cuts at budget time , both do nothing to tackle union intransigence in the public sector , instead preferring to pension off the more militant long serving staff while creating less favourable conditions for new entrants , their priority is always to keep unions sweet and the public sector onside , all parties in ireland vigorously court the public sector and today even FG court the welfare class ahead of those who work

thats just economics , there is no centre right party in this country comparable to what passes for same in other western countries , none !

michael martin is the most left wing leader FF have ever had , sure dev was very left wing on economics but martin is as left as anyone in labour or the greens both socially and economically

The "far-right" in Ireland is an invention of the media. As elections show, extremism has no support in this country.

its an invention of the NGO "ism" hustler industry , of course the media are very close to them ideologically

They're both relatively socially conservative (even with that they allowed gay marriage and abortion referenda), economically they both support a welfare state and the provision of healthcare, generous unemployment payments (relative to other countries) etc etc they just aren't very right wing at all when you compare them with the right wing parties in the UK, US, Australia, France and elsewhere

Dunno what you're on about saying the far right doesn't really exist, but it's quite a stretch to suggest it has any substantive presence in Ireland - the most prominent of that ilk i.e. Gemma O'Doherty are widely ridiculed and derided as eejits (as they should be), their gatherings are disorganised and fairly small.

What are some examples that the far right are tightening their grip on Ireland if it's as real an issue as you suggest? Just seems to be a bit of an ethereal bogeyman to me honestly. They really are a total non-entity here when it comes to electoral politics.

In my opinion, it is very unfair that child benefit is 140 per month for one child, 280 per month for 2 children but if you have twins it's 420. I can understand how having twins would be a bigger cost outlay for say, the first year, but after this it's pretty much the same cost wise whether you've two the same age or two that are say 14 months apart. Over 18 years, someone with twins will get an awful lot more than someone with Irish twins :D

Maybe it's like a rebate for IVF.

on the topic of Sport I despise the GAA who rake in millions, from RTE, SkyTV, Guinness, etc and wont pay the players a single penny.

Then part of me dont blame them if the players are stupid enough to play for nothing after being brainwashed about some parochial pride.

Or when someone on RTE called it "the people's game".

People who take drugs shouldn't be automatically labelled a scumbag.

Those who are happy and content in their lives usually don't take drugs. So there is a reason why some choose to go ahead & take drugs. The reasons why, should be explored before branding them scum.

Why would taking drugs even lead to being called scum?

Have you not heard of anyone being called a scumbag for taking drugs? I've heard it loads & I don't agree with it.

There is very few ways to acquire drugs without dealing with scumbags.

I suppose the user is classed as a scumbag by association.

Do you think they pocket the money! That it pays for their personal credit cards, international holidays or pays their rent!
It all goes into coaching in clubs and schools, keeping kids involved in sport and giving them a reason to get off the couch.

Yeah because anyone that doesn’t like the exact same things as you has to be faking.

Will never understand the sneering types who pretty much celebrate the losses of the Irish rugby team - I can’t fathom wanting a team representing Ireland and trying their best to lose.

Even in sports I don’t like/don’t watch I’d just say fair play and best of luck. Actively hoping for their failure just because you’ve a chip on your shoulder or for whatever reason just comes off a bit bitter and pathetic imho.

At least the GAA dont go about demanding matches moved to accomandate their games

The absolute farce of irfu, wanting all oirelands(as they call em) moved to accomandate a rwc match,if we had been misfortunate enough to hold it

Arrogant gowls, deserve a knock back, its a woeful spectacle of buzzwords

(But yess the gaa have plenty of gowls, none more so than me.own county)

I think both the GAA and Rugby have the most obnoxious fans.
Have you ever been out for a pint on a sunday after a game and see their "fans".

It got to the point i would hope cork would lose every game so I would not have to listen to those simpletons go on and on and on as if GAA was some sort of important thing in life.

Then we got the Rugby fans who came out of the woodwork and became almost as bad.
