Oh, there's a recall for that on the 1st editions, the plastic clips holding the rear light bar can expand and pop out

It should only happen on warm days though, you must be on vacation 😜

The dealership should be able to sort it out

The irony is that VW isn't as profitable per car as others, they seem to have a lot of manual steps in their manufacturing lines

This is probably down to the company being a bit of a socialist enterprise, the workers council get seats on the board, as does the local government in Lower Saxony

So when the CEO starts saying they should automate everything and fire half the workers you can guess which was they both vote 😁

I'm not complaining, frankly it seems to work well. The works council stops the staff being treated like crap but at the same time because they're on the board, they're responsible to keep the company turning a profit

That's why you'll often see articles about how VW management was seeking a 20% reduction in staff at a factory and in the end it either turns into a voluntary early retirement plan or redeployment, or they increase the factory output by adding automation and a bunch of the workers get upskilled to manage the machines

Trying to install plug & charge and keep getting this error. Auto is online.

finally the update popped up today. However we need the car later. Presume I can try the update tonight. Praying the car doesn’t get bricked 🙈

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,356 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Assuming you didn't start the update and interrupt it you should be fine. It should have the "update now" button when you stop the car

I've noticed it might disappear the odd time but it should come back

Does anyone know if the dynamic road sign display gets its information from the cars windscreen camera or the cars gps data?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,119 ✭✭✭✭KCross

  • Registered Users Posts: 36 Mgkmgkmgk

Ok and am I correct in saying "the dynamic road sign display" is supposed to display the current speed limit of the road you are driving on?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,119 ✭✭✭✭KCross

It has its map data which tells it the speed limit and it also uses the camera to read the signs (e.g. temp roadworks signs) and it will combine the two to give you the current speed limit and it can also use that to auto adjust your speed when using active cruise.

Whatever it thinks is the speed limit is displayed on the dash so it should be obvious to you.

Ok thanks this is what I thought too but its not the case with my ID.4 anyway.

I'm trying to fix a gps issue as mentioned earlier in a post. The Nav app in the infotainment is not getting a gps lock on my car and as the incorrect gps location wonder's off road and back on road the dynamic road sign display is displaying the current speed limits from the gps data.

Everytime it wonders off road I'm getting a message stating "dynamic road sign display is currently restricted" and "no data available for this area"

Everything the gps wonders back on road my display is showing the gps speed limit of the road even though Im not on it.

For example, if im on the motorway and the nav system is showing my car in a housing estate the speed limit display will show 30kms for the motorway. If I press the ACC while I'm on the motorway the car will break aggressively to match the wrong speed limit it is displaying.

Likewise, if I'm in a housing estate I've seen speed limit of 120km displayed.

I double checked this with my phones gps and it confirms the speed limits I'm seeing.

Even while I'm stationary the "dynamic road sign display is currently restricted" is coming on and off as the gps wonders off road and back on road.

All this started a couple of nights ago when I got a map update notification. I presumed any map updates would of been included in the ID.Software 3.1.0 update I received back in November.

System information in settings is showing Navigation database 22.12 which I presume is the update I received a couple of nights ago December 2022.

I don’t know what’s going on with all that but possibly a faulty GPS unit and maybe a dealer visit is required.

Noticed today. What an age at live in! Give the app team a raise.

I'll try to get an appointment with a dealer locally if they're not too busy!

Otherwise, it's a 2 hour drive back to where I bought it.

Did an overnight trip to Belfast and back yesterday, car was flawless as usual, averaged just under 20kWh/100km with the cabin set to 20C and car loaded down with family and luggage

My one complaint is that whoever designed the Travel Assist didn't account for idiots in other cars. There was some eejit sat in the fast lane at 117km/h on the M1 with cars undertaking him

Because I was in the slow lane with a car in front I couldn't exactly hammer past him. So every so often my car would pick him up beside me and match speed before I gave permission to undertake. I eventually managed to get past him 😬

Also, I can see why people in Northern Ireland drive like they're in a Mad Max film. The roads up there are so terribly designed that you're practically taking your life in your hands 😱

Got the update 3 pushed to the car. Would it be best advised to wait after the new year to install just in case anything goes wrong ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,356 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Mine went fine but it's up to you. It's best to do it overnight as it take a while

Started. It’s asked for the side lights to be turned off before installation

Do you have to request the update or does it just eventually get pushed to the car?

Assuming you're on software 2.4 it should get pushed to the car eventually

No just came up on the screen when I pulled up at the house yesterday. I didn’t accept it yesterday as I wasn’t ready to update it and thought the notification would be gone. But it’s there again today

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,356 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Yeah I guess that's like a fail safe check to ensure you're happy to proceed with the update

For anyone with Travel Assist, be aware the buttons work a bit differently with 3.0

The travel assist button now cycles between Travel Assist or just Adaptive Cruise Control

Pressing the Set or Reset buttons will activate Travel Assist as well (assuming that's the mode you selected)

Pressing the off button while active disengages the Travel Assist or ACC. Pressing again will deactivate it entirely and the Travel Assist button won't be illuminated. Pressing it again switches it back on into standby

Also if you want to avoid the N7 speed limit change where it slams on the brakes from 120 to 50 then be aware you need to switch off "speed limit preview" in two places now.

Open the assist menu, one is in ACC and the other I think is in Front Assist or Speed Limiter

They have to both be switched off I think

Probably a sanity check for you to confirm you are parked up somewhere with a decent 4G or even a wi-fi connection also. You’re probably much more likely to brick it if you live in a black hole with a flaky 3G data connection.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,356 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

It only prompts for the update when it's already downloaded, shouldn't matter if the signal is bad when you're doing the update

It does need to connect to the internet afterwards to complete the update but I don't think it'll brick the car if that fails

Ffs. Why can’t they just keep these things simple. It’s like owning an android phone again 😓😓🫢

I remember when I did one of my ID.3 updates (Cannot remember which one) the radio came on very loud and could not be turned off. Was far louder than my normal set volume, fortunately was by day but could hear clearly in house. At least I knew when update was complete..🙂

Might be worth turning off radio before installing.

Tbh I find the new controls are a bit more intuitive once you get used to them

So I have to wait until the second week of January for the car to be checked for the 3.0 problem I have (the earliest service slot they have).

If the car goes in as a breakdown it has to go in on a flatbed , even if it’s still driving. Been told that’s the only way VW provide the loaner car.

Around 10 breakdown cars (not ID cars) already waiting at the dealer so no idea when it would get looked at, and only a skeleton crew around until next week.

VW assist only cover 3 days from when the car goes in so there’s a gap that I’m trying to confirm who will cover before I do anything.

Might wait until next week at this stage, disappointing it’s happened at this time of the year, thems the breaks…
