Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Using coax for Internet?

Ive upgraded my broadband to 3 wireless. Its going fairly OK but the speed is a bit up and down. The modem is currently located downstairs. I've tried the modem in the attic and speeds are consistently better. I've purchased an external antenna for the attic to improve the reliability of speed and signal. I'm awaiting delivery of the antenna but a work colleague in the know of these things recommended it. The antenna requires 2 SMA cables to connect from the antenna to the router. I already have 2 coax cables (not in use) run from a TV aerial socket to the area in the attic that I will be positioning my antenna. I have 2 questions:

    1. Can I use the coax cable to link the router and the antenna? In other words run Internet over coax (rather than run 2 new SMA cables) And if so:
    2. What adaltors/connectors will I need to convert from coax to sma?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I'm not certain but I think the coaxial cable you need is 50 ohm while the coaxial you have already is likely to be 75 ohm for TV. You'd probably get the best performance by using the correct cable.

Yep spot on. Majority of satellite/cable coax is 75ohm and isn't really suitable.

OP, best to run new cabling with new connectors and start out right.
