Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    "Drinking the Kool-Aid"
We don't have Kool-Aid here. The people who use it probably have no idea about what happened in Jonestown.
    "My Bad"
    Your bad what?
    "Paycheck"
They are called cheques in Ireland.

"It's/that's a disgrace" drives me crazy.
It's the most overused phrase in ireland by a considerable distance.

Should of, could of, when should have, could have is correct.
Is English grammar taught any more?

Heard Keith Earls start an answer with this on the radio the other morning. KEITH EARLS! The people's winger!
That war is lost I'm afraid.

His boss, who is from New Zealand, starts most of his answer with Joe or Yo. These must be Kiwi versions of You Know / Y'Know.

In speech should've etc are acceptable, just like shouldn't. Very hard for my ears to distinguish should've from should of. I very rarely see should of etc in writing.

I "picked up", instead of bought.

I picked up the new Call of Duty.

It's straight from too much American TV/Youtubers/Podcasts

    Makes me sick.

Then you couldn't be reading social media, Boards, the Journal, Facebook etc. it's everywhere. I could only be talking about the written form.

Yes, the use of 'could of', 'would of', 'should of' etc is more noticeable in the written form. However, I know someone who speaks at meetings and, quite clearly, says 'should of', 'would of' etc in speeches.

Another phrase that I've heard a few times is 'Had Of' as in, for example, "if he/she had of called earlier..."

    It makes me cringe.

Yes, really. I did a search on Boards, Should Of, Would Of, and practically nothing. If it is being used in here, it is in language threads like this one, and the recent post about it is not the first on the thread.

I do not use any other social media, but using Google day to day, I do not see it either.

I hate the expression “wash, rinse and repeat” meaning to repeat a process over and over. Unfortunately it’s quite common here on boards.ie

On that note - the expression "get the shift" as in "I went to Coppers to get the shift".

Its a phrase for filthy muck savages.

"just like Ireland" just heard someone on the news there say that about Japan or "just like the Irish" when referring to other nationalities. No its not and No they are not

And the same sports/GAA people often say " look" as in "look, they were just a better team " Repeatedly using the word, really annoying. Another pet hate is when people being interviewed, say on the radio, start every sentence with "So"
as in "So, tomorrow I am going on holidays" People who answer questions with "Absolutely" instead of "Yes".
"Conversations" instead of discussion or debate.
"Amazing" to describe almost anything they like. (I blame Aldi for this) :(

    I'm super tired.
