Aul wuns at the Checkout Till

Why is it that they can never have their money or their card ready by the time their mountain of shopping has been scanned? Why do they have to go rooting in their oversized bag every feckin time. Then when all is said and done they decide to produce the vouchers and have a chat with the bored checkout assistant. All the while, everyone else behind them are just waiting to pay for their stuff, get the hell out of dodge and get on with their day? Feckin aul wuns

    Tell me about it

The reaction is always " what, where, who!, do I have to pay for these marieta biscuits"

You'll be old some day and the youth will be moaning about you not knowing how to use the 3 sea shells and leaving the jacks in rag order. Cut them some slack.

My pet peeve is people getting Lotto, how does it take so long in this day and age? Can they not just do it on their phone or have a self service kiosk for it.

We'll all be old and lonely some day as well.

Although it will undoubtedly some day induce a heart attack in me, the more of a rush you're in, the slower they are.

It's the (invariably) younger ones who scan all the shopping and then go "oops, I forgot X, do you mind???" and go cantering off down the supermarket, rendering the till useless until they return, that will get me done for murder some day.

I'm not in a slack cutting kind of mood today. They need to get their **** together, they don't have that much time left, why waste it at the checkout

Why don't you use the self service tills OP, if other shoppers bother you?

There should be a dedicated aul wuns checkout in larger supermarkets staffed by an almost aulwan nearing retirement. They can natter away to each other and to the other aul wans in the queue, catching up on the local funerals and weather. Will do wonder for the community.

Maybe that's the real reason you don't use them......

Its worse when someone old or young only has a few bits so you've let them go ahead and they do this.

No, the real reason i don't use them is invariably the woman ahead of me will make a balls of it and have to await for assistance.

It was worse when they had those fúcking tokens for cheap furniture, luggage sets and crockery. Farting about with collector cards and tokens. Give me strength.

    Doesn't happen in Aldi.

It happens a lot in Centra though, and it's women and men equally. Of any age.

Tried it. Ended up buying a load of **** I didn't need. I once bought 3 fresh basil plants online. 3 of them. I've never used basil in my life but felt the need to buy 3 of them. Cos they were cheap

I have noticed this about Aldi, it's because most of the Checkout merchants are forners and have no interest in the aul wuns ****e hawking

Not even that, they have KPIs on how fast they scan & clear the tills, lots of pressure on those staff members.

Also kills me knowing that many of the slow aul wans are in fact just very bored and lonely, and are just glad to drag out the tiny bit of human interaction they get for an extra couple seconds..

I saw an auld wan rummaging through her bag at the Aldi checkout one time and attempting to make small talk with the cashier...... A silent alarm was pressed and moments later two burly employees arrived at the till to escort her from the premises. Can't beat that Teutonic efficiency.

It's irritating when it's parish pump bull****, but for a lot of other elderly people it might be the only conversation they've had in days.

Having the likes of you glowering and glaring and gurning and giving them the evil eye would put anyone off! Great to be out shopping. Maybe allow yourself more time, or use the self service. I used to get stuck behind folk older than me and never a worry. There is no rule, no time limit. And with thee no manners!

Happened to me in lidl last week. An aul Dodger, just had the paper and bread. Go ahead says I. The aul bollix gets to the checkout, bores the tits off yer one working and then says 'I left my phone here yesterday, I believe it's in the office' I nearly blew a gasket. 10 minutes she spent looking for the cnuts phone.

Yes, good idea. With a picture of Bunny Carr or Joe Duffy above the till to signify it's for 'oul wans. And instead of chewing gum in the shelf alongside the conveyor belt, maybe a few copies of Irelands Own or The Messenger, as well as some Silvermints and a choice of Players or Embassy fags.

My local Aldi has no bagging area so they have to move to pack up their stuff. Not a coincidence the shops are designed like that.

I think you'll find it's people of all ages. I'm 75 and I doubt you'll be any quicker getting the week's groceries through the checkout than me. All on the conveyer before the previous customer is finished, club card, parking ticket etc all presented and bags packed as quickly as they are rung through. Payment is made in seconds, and off I go. I'm often delayed by people fussing over packing, looking for vouchers, rummaging for change etc and they're rarely of retirement age.

When I become an old geezer I'll luxuriate in the pleasure of annoying the ever-living shoite out of impatient freaks, can't wait!

I'll count out the pennies individually, drop a couple, have the red-faced fool behind me pick them and start counting over again. When I've pushed them to the limit and they tell me to hurry, that's when I'll unleash the secret weapon.

My corset will burst into pieces, revealing old man muscles that would put a gorilla to shame, get the scrotes in a headlock and burst their noggins like swollen zits.

Their peers will giggle at their burst heads and coo in admiration as I bound over the checkout, through the shop window and into my revving Rolls Royce, hob nobs intact as I laugh with the gusto of the four winds.

    Probably.

    They are numbered, to infinity.

I'll still be counting pennies to annoy you, your head will still be popped, and you'll still miss your pubic de-licing appointment because of it.
