Wahey, another year of this and it's only days away. Looking forward to it. Mount Leinster stage is gone as well.

Is the usual boardies riding in it? And the other usual ones getting the mankini out?

That time of year again when I wish I was a "bean" & that I knew how to race a bike. I can confirm that the new Pactimo jerseys are ace. Kudos, chapeau and allez-allez-allez to anyone going racing it, it's a tough tough race but a fabulous event.

The real Ras is back again
    Is gonna be brilliant.
Incredible event, especially when you consider the small team running it.
    Can't wait to watch :D

This is worth a listen for some background of the event, the organisation that goes into it as well as what to expect this year.

Cliona Foley with the race director on Off the Bench / Off the Ball. Really good interview, I thought.

Stage 3 looks great, the Wolf trap from the east has some steep sections and should break it up a lot before the final ascent on the cut. Anyone any ideas of the daily start time as I wouldn't mind seeing some of that stage?

Went for a spin around the last half of Stage 3 today (Johnstown to The Cut). Them organisers are secret sadists :-)

That will be a stunning stage. Mt Leinster stage was a cycle to the shops for milk comparing to this baby. The climb from Mountrath is where the race will be won or lost IMO. It is brutal long steep climb, think Gallows Hill steepness X 4 times the length. The drop in to Kinnity is fast and tight but a fairly decent surface in most places. A brief 15km fairly flat open road to Clonaslee and the final turn towards The Cut.

I'd hate to be on a bike doing that, pure torture of the highest degree. But by God will it be entertaining to look at haha

Well, they could have put in the Glendine instead of the Wolftrap, now that would have been cruel......

I was hoping to make it over on Friday, mightn't happen now for the usual reasons but if anyone is heading it should be possible to see the race pass on the Wolftrap, drop back down to the Cut and get up the south side to see the finish on top.

Sounded like a deadly stage today. 2 rider breakaway seconds ahead of the pack held it to the line and duked it out for the win. The twitter feed would have you on the edge of your seat. Josie Knight takes a suitcase full of jerseys and flowers home tonight! :)

Was on Facebook for sure anyway. Along with some great photos and a deadly series if snaps of the winner rising from the bars and throwing her hands in the air with a proper roar of delight!

A day of crashes. Beautiful weather for a change.

    Provisional winner was Josie.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,435 ✭✭✭✭greenspurs

Josie Knight first over the line, Backsted close behind.

A big crash inside the final km. 2 girls on the ground , paramedics and marshalls helping.
One poor girl put in an ambulance over an hour AFTER the stage had finished, her leg in an inflatable splint...

Girls were tipping 80kmph coming down the descent off the QoH in Templeorum.
    Brave women !!

No stealing going on. She's been going better since she transferred than her whole career in an Irish jersey...

Absolutely delighted for Josie, she deserves every single ounce of success that comes her way. She's dedicated her life to cycling and is such a talent, it looks like she's now been looked after properly, the only way is up!

Hardly stole, Josie getting what she has worked so hard for, delighted for her, getting the right support from GB both on the track & road, and these two stage wins are well deserved, listen to her interview and you’ll hear what this race means to her, in her own words “it my home race”.

yes ! :) Was talking to one of the motorbike cops, they could barely stay ahead of them on the bends!
Down the climb known as Mullinbeg. Very technical descent, long straights then bands that keep tightening and then dips, and long fast bends.

Cant wait for the Crit tomorrow night ! Hope the weather is kind to them !
Would love to hitting the Slieve Blooms today ! :(

    Todays stage :

Road Race The Cut – Slieve Blooms 111KM
Friday’s third stage is a brand new ‘Queen’ stage with an epic assault on The Cut in the Slieve Bloom Mountains in County Laois which is set to create big gaps between the riders on general classification.
The stage is a daunting 111km slog from Kilkenny through County Offaly, onto Wolftrap Mountain followed by the route into County Laois and on to The Cut. The final climb is a 7.4km ascent with an average gradient of 4.5% and a maximum of 9.8% to a popular viewing point for cyclists and tourists.

    Kilkenny (SHC) – Freshford – Johnstown – Rathdowney – Donaghmore – Borris-In-Ossory – Mountrath – Kinnitty – Clonaslee – The Cut

    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30510936?mc_cid=73f1192c95&mc_eid=58d8a1f1f8

There could a lot of gaps again today, will surely be the winning and losing of it for all interested.
Knight and Backstedt will be to the fore again.

Spoke to Josie this morning. Definitely an English accent there....

Anyway, now in Borris. Seems a hive of activity, but no sign of the man himself.

dunno, sticks in the craw a bit, maybe just cos it's GB.

obviously the funding and backing in britain is centuries ahead of how it is here.

but, the same way we call Dan Martin, Irish, Josie is now British, and more power to her. Just a shame she couldn't have had success in the green the way we've seen Lara Gillespie and Lydia Boylan, do. If yer good enough, etc....
