just a guess and would be a bit of a coincidence to only show after you worked on it but is it after damaging the key drive on the pump, only catching now and again?

catching now and again would describe it well.
when it's not working it is trying to do something. nearly like the pump is spinning but not pumping. then it gradually catches after a few shifts into fwd and reverse and goes a few yards, and stops.
oil is gone foamy milky colour and wasnt like that before. how do I check the key drive?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,140 ✭✭✭zetecescort

have you access to remove the pump? could be a pig of a job if the drive and/or keyway are damaged.

Is it the one pump that deos the vibration/driving?

    Throw up a few pics

Left my hilux over to get the chassis welded, sand blasted and undersealed.
Seems that it's not the only hilux, and the english ones are worse.
Hopefully it'll leave it trouble free now.

    I expected better

You really should have followed Toyota for it but they'll not go near it now since it's been touched up.

If this becomes a common issue with yokes sub 10 years old I'd not be surprised to see a recall/goodwill fix or buy back.

They've done similar in other countries before on tundras and forerunners.

They have an email from me regarding it any way and I got a reply so if there's anything going I should be in there.
I got a payout from them on another new hilux in about 2003, They might think I'm a chancer:D

well my attempts at a one handed video and demo weren't successful!
i took out the hydraulic filter last night and washed with diesel and airline. messy job but it was worth a try. put it back in and she drive for a few yards stopping and starting, but you couldn't go any distance before the pump would be roaring under pressure.
i took out a sample of the hydraulic oil and it was fair watery looking.i had only topped it up after the leak and it hasn't ran 30 mins since then.
i pumped the hydraulic tank empty and have a new filter to go into it with new oil.

Anyone ever watch the "scrap Saturday" auction up in Portlaoise? I'm amazed at the prices stuff make, a Fleming double bale handler that could do with a bit of paint made 1225 plus commission, a brand new one is 1250 plus vat. Do people get carried away or what?

I got the jeep undersealed during the week with FMK rustproofing, the job itself was very good and if the products they use are good it should be the end of the rust problem.
It would've failed again as there was another hole in the chassis so it was time to undrseal it
It got a valet as well as the dust of the sandblasting got in every where so it's like new now, Hpe it lasts now
    €1200 for that.

Good to know I was thinking about getting them to do the same job on my D-max

Sounds like a good job, need to get the arch of my chassis welded too, but it's '97 so can't complain. Did you get any pics of the job?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    Ate they using mastic

They pumped something into the box section alright, I doubt it was mastic.
The grey coat he called a converter and the final coat (black) was chip resistant paint.
They used a product called dinitrol (which I know nothing about)

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,251 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

I use Dinitrol on the underside of the car. Works well, but can dry and crack. Also if you are washing areas applied with it be careful that you don't blast it off.

Edit - not sure specifically which item in the dinitrol range it was.

I hope it's better than that, it has to go back to be checked in 12 mths so it'd be a good idea to test it with the power washer a few times in the meantime.
In effect there's a 12 mth guarantee on it I suppose.

Ah - just edited before I seen this. I'll check what product it was we used.

Do you know what they done to prevent rust eating from the inside out in the chassis rails, etc?

There was supposed to be a dinitrol product put in those too, I think they called it a wax

    This is the process

    https://www.fmkrustproofing.ie/pages/dinitrol-application-process

They had to do some repairs and welding

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,251 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

It was waxoyl which was under the Dinitrol which caused the problem. You should be grand.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭ruwithme

Right about the dinitrol not suitable for strong blasts of the power washer on exposed parts of the chassis.

D max here from new, done with dinitrol & need to be easy with power washer on it.

FMK were telling me that Pino harris used Dinitrol on the new Isuzu jeeps, he had a 1998 trooper in to be done, it got 22 years, that'd do me. It seems they needed to be done when new...... I thought it was just sales talk but you're the proof

Yeah, the 3.0 Troopers that came through Pino Harris all seem to have been done.
Usually a little tri-angular sticker in the corner of the windscreen, or on the smaller window on the back doors.
