We’ve been abysmal since we scored. Thrown the top ranking away.

In fairness, if we had achieved it I would be seriously uncomfortable with being number 1 in the world based on what we have shown this year. We are blatantly not the best side in the world at the moment. Not even remotely. It would have been a farce.

Today has had its encouraging moments, but the reality is a scratch welsh team have us on the ropes and we have collapsed. We are struggling to hold with 5 minutes left and could easily lose a game that we should have dominated. Not good. Not good at all.

Bad bad second half. Look worryingly out of ideas with ball in hand. Fair play to the Welsh though they have come out all guns blazing in the last half hour or so

It's a bit ridiculous that these games even count for world ranking points.

According to some on Twitter Beirne has been amazing. I think Beirne has played himself off the plane.

Perhaps don't be taking personal offence to a post with several users posts quoted showing how quick opinions were changing. If anything Carry was more responsible.

    Oh no offence taken.
I'll confess that I'm a pedant. Fickle doesn't appropriately summarise what was going on is all.

    And it's Carty. ;)

I dont disagree that some names have been absent but you cant say its just a coincedence that we are in complete control until they made the changes. And I just dont see Best being a leader

Hard to overstate what an irrelevance world rankings are for Ireland.

Deplorable. Again. Against a ragbag Welsh side. Particularly inept after the yellow.

    Well thank goodness that's over.

Well this has done nothing to improve confidence for the world cup. They really needed to perform after last week and they've struggled badly to close out that game when they should have been out of sight.

Also, those having a go at Best. He’s made 12 tackles so far. Only Henderson has made more.

Not a single smile from any of the Irish camp, they know themselves that was sh*te

You don't see Best as a leader?

I'll be as polite as possible, but are you new to watching Ireland?

Right very interesting moment, Best and Toner cannot afford to let the standard drop one bit, cos it'll stick out like a sore thumb and increase pressure on Best.

    I'll just leave this here.

Players that will be happy today: Aki, Ryan (James), Marmion, Scannell, Porter, Conway, Stockdale

Players that won't: Conan, Beirne, Furlong, Best, Beirne, Farrell and Beirne.

12 tackles made since coming in.

How on Earth did Shane Williams come to the conclusion that Carty was MOTM? Bundee our best player by a country mile.

I actually forgot he was playing. Think I heard his name once when he carried near the Welsh line around 60 minute mark.

    Farrell the same. Anonymous.

    Killer looks fine there.

The squad announcement will be entertaining for sure.

Ireland win against Wales at home. Both second string sides. Ireland owned the first half, Wales the second. Be loads of people reacting to that game like it is a loss but there was positives there.

Kilcoyne, Stockdale and Aki our best today. Addison and Conway good

Farrell and Beirne in big trouble

When is the squad announced? Tomorrow or after last warm up game?

I see the knees are jerking already. This was a much improved performance over last week. We were defensively solid for the first 50 minutes and although a few scores were a bit lucky, we still did well to take them. James Ryan and Dave Kilcoyne put in monster shifts in the first half and Jack Carty was very solid in the first 40 too.

McGrath's tackle on the line saved an embarrassing defeat.

The fact it was better than last week doesn't detract from how concerning it was tbh

I would imagine that performance cemented his place on the plane. With Porter clearly providing cover, McGrath’s chances are done.

Assuming the firsts run out next week or close to it, it’ll be more concerning if we’re poor there than in a second team match

Decision is in next day or two but announcement not till after next week's game.

Has to be submitted to World rugby tomorrow but not being public announced till after next weeks mafch I think

Worth mentioning too that that was Joe's first victory with Ireland in Cardiff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,239 ✭✭✭ClanofLams

Carty had a very good first half, one missed conversion aside. Few errors in the second half but a good display overall, Williams acknowledged it what’s first fifty minutes that got him it.

Can’t really give it to Kilcoyne, Stockdale etc who played forty minutes. Thought Aki would get it myself.

Front row I thought was a positive for the most part

James Ryan should be the next captain.

We can't seem to get an effective backrow on the pitch at the moment. It doesnt help that the likes of Ruddock havent been given a chance.

Half back was mixed bag but more positive then negative IMO.

Centres were mostly good, especially defensively

Conway and to lesser extent Addison were good.

Best had a good performance off the bench
Kilcoyne our most effective carrier. Backrow simply didn't carry at all. Making a load of tackles just isn't enough at this level.

Well, that was the last chance to get on the plane. The squad has to be finalised on Monday and it'll be announced after the home game. We'll get the leak before then.

    Here's my 31:

Props: Healy, Kilcoyne, Porter, Furlong and Ryan.

    Hookers: Best, Scannell and Cronin.

Locks: Henderson, Ryan, Toner and Beirne.

Back row: VdF, POM, Stander, Nordi, Conan.

Halfback: Sexton, Murray, Marmion, Carbery, Carty.

    Centres: Addison, Ringrose, Aki, Henshaw.

Back five: Kearney, Earls, Stockdale, Conway and Larmour.
