Can't enable XMP - BIOS not saving - RAM?

    Hi,

I just finished building my new PC:
    - MB: Gigabyte x570 aorus elite
    - RAM: Patriot Viper 3400Mhz

The problem is that when I get into the BIOS, it seems that my RAM vendor is not identified, it says "unknown 8gb 2133Mhz" (see https://imgur.com/aycmKD5).

So, when I try to enable XMP to get the frequency to 3400Mhz and then save, it takes awfully long for the computer to restart and the BIOS is showing the following message "BIOS has been reset. Please re-config your BIOS setup items if needed" (see https://imgur.com/sK6Gewk) and XMP is disabled again. Seems like the BIOS can't save the settings.

I have my ram in the recommended slots (A2 - B2), however I tried to swap to the other two slots but the same problem persists.

Any idea what can be happening?

What RAM are you using, manufacturer and model number?
Edit - just saw it now.

You could try updating the B.I.O.S. to the latest version to maximize compatibility in the XMP profile.

I did update to the latest version, same issue...

Does it do the same thing when you run the RAM at lower speeds?

Currently is running at 2133Mhz which is the default. I am not sure how to lower the speed

Did you manually try to set the memory speed you want? Rather than just clicking the XMP button?

You are in Easy mode there so go to advanced or what ever they call it.

I tried doing it manually but is not clear to me. I have been googling but don't really know how to do that

What is the timings of that RAM you have? It is rated at 3400MHz but at what voltage and what timings? Find that out first before you go any where. They are usually writing on the side of the RAM stick itself or check the manufacturers website.

The rated speeds will also be in the bios under:

    Advanced/Tweaker/Advanced Memory settings/SPD Info

The rated timings and voltage and speed will be in there.

Tell me what those rated speeds are and I will help you set it up.

Thanks, this is what I got

That's not it. That's what is currently set at. Go to:

    Advanced/Tweaker/Advanced Memory settings/SPD Info

    You went into:

    Advanced/Tweaker/Advanced Memory settings/Memory subtimings

    Go to tweaker set:

    Advanced Memory multiplier to: 34

Then down near the end set:

    DRAM Voltage (A/B): 1.35V

Then go into Advanced Memory settings/Memory subtimings and set:

    CAS Latency: 16

    tRCDRD: 18

    tRCDWR: 18

    tRP: 18

    tRAS: 36

    tRC: 68

    ************************

Leave all the other settings on auto. Try that anyway and see how you get on.

Got this message after saving and restarting:
"BIOS has been reset. Please re-config your BIOS setup items if needed"

Unfortunately seems like the BIOS resets everytime I change something on the settings

Leave out overclcoking the RAM can you overclock the CPU just to see if it holds a setting if not there must be a problem with the board or bios.

I done a quick google and try this in this thread:

Same result, BIOS keeps resetting. I will keep researching and see what I can find.

    Thanks for the help, appreciated

I found this in this thread:

    https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/gigabyte-x570-aorus-pro-bios-resetting.18859692/

It is about setting XMP in advanced mode worked for his so give it a shot.

I checked that one and gave it a shot, no luck so far

Well all you can do is wait for a new bios update as it's not a board issue since other people have the same problem.

Well on the plus side at least you can still use the PC.

I think I will have to wait indeed and take it from there. Thanks again!

I've the same board and can enable xmp no problem. I've different RAM though.

    One last shot try this:

    Go to tweaker set:

    System Memory multiplier to: 30

Then down near the end set:

    DRAM Voltage (CH A/B): 1.35V

    *****************************

Just to see if it will hold at 3000MHz

It holds at 3000Mhz! Thanks! What do you think is the problem? Anything faulty or incompatible?

    What's your RAM Grahamer72?

You can further mess around to get faster speeds. That's the beauty of PC's depending on which side of the fence you are looking at. I'm the side who likes messing about other like to just click XMP and go from there.

    Try:

    System Memory multiplier to: 32

Then down near the end set:

    DRAM Voltage (CH A/B): 1.35V

    That will be 3200MHz

    ********************

    Then try

    System Memory multiplier to: 34

Then down near the end set:

    DRAM Voltage (CH A/B): 1.35V

    That will be 3400MHz

    ********************

There is timings you can mess around with which I told you to change erarlier but they were the basic ones as you can see in bios there are more to change but I wouldn't bother as they are more advanced timings anyway. They are the settings guys change who get great scores in bench marks.

How did you get on at 3200MHz or 3400MHz?

If they both hold I would start changing the basic timings to see what timings the bios is setting them to at those speeds in Windows automatically download CPU-z and post a picture of the memory tab.

Also there is a beta bios that might solve it
    http://forum.gigabyte.us/thread/7704/x570-aorus-elite-reset-issue

    Will try tomorrow as well

One thing I forgot to get you to set the very first time when I told you to set the timings was the command rate. If that was set to 1T automatically when it should have been 2T it would cause instability of the bios which would have reset the bios which happened.

I don't know which command rate it should be as it never said in SPD info of the bios which you posted.

If you download CPU-z it will tell you in the SPD tab.
