I was woken up with the sound of torrential rain last night and couldn't sleep for an hour afterwards. Pools of water all over the driveway and along the road.

I said yesterday some places could get 50-100mm of rain over the next week, following last night's rainfall that total may now seem rather short sighted with 20-40mm already in many areas from last night alone.

Lovely day in Cork. Bit of a cool breeze at times but sunny and warm in sheltered areas.

There has been only 7.4mm rain recorded here since midnight. The current temperature which is the day's high is 16.2C. Last night was quite mild with 14.6C.

A wild wind full of energy; wondering if the humidity levels have fallen with this wind as it feels different.

Also very mild; not an ounce of malice in the wind as it tries to blow you over.

No mountains. Just clouds of all kinds and colours. But feels good out there. Been tidying my neglected garden even.

It has all changed this last few days. Autumn in its glory. Not that we have autumn colour here. When I first came to Ireland it was after a decade on a similarly storm tossed treeless island in the North Sea and my first autumn was totally magical.

an area of intense rainfall stretching from Kildare to Wexford and going nowhere fast, could easily dump 10 to 20mm of rain, depending on how long it sticks around for.

Lovely sunny evening out here... dry all day too.. Rare for the west to escape! Bliss! Even got some gardening done... I know; evanescent but nonetheless very healing and a pleasure

you've been very lucky to avoid that rain. It's now stretching from wexford to Donegal, but somehow it avoided both our locations.

Nothing much in Letterkenny since heavy rain overnight/this morning either, just a dull damp day with the odd shower. Rain started up again now though

some places in Cavan and Fermanagh had a rain rate of 60-80mm/hr in some of those showers, not surprised to see Spanish style water running down the streets.

Just trying to figure out how so much rain fell today in the aforementioned areas. Big convection as can be seen on the Satellite .

The charts show fairly high Theta E readings and lots of shear and on the lower levels a slight convergence zone especially North Midlands. Looks like the small system moved slowly up along the country as it has hemmed in by the cold front over the UK and with the relatively warm temperatures convection was able to make the most of the available moisture in the atmosphere ?

We had heavy rain here in s cavan during the afternoon but nothing torrential, you could see very dark skies northeast of here from late morning.
My sister went to do the shopping in lidl in Virginia and was stranded in the car such was the downpours, also said it was scary driving as the wipers werent fit to clear the windscreen.
