No university, no Garda division HQ, no planes for their airport, no North Quays development and no 24-hour cardiac unit. The good news though is Waterford has John Halligan.

And, very soon, no more John Deasy! How will the people of Waterford cope with this looming tragedy?

If Maura Derrane disappeared along with him it would represent a double blessing. Two gobaloons.

They'll do the Hucklebuck, eat lots of blaas, organise another protest march and invade Kilkenny another metre.

Ireland won four gold medals and a bronze at the biennial WorldSkills Competition in Kazan which was reported by RTE 4 days ago
    https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2019/0828/1071411-medals-galore-for-ireland-at-world-skills-competition/
However, when the 17-strong team arrived back in Dublin on Thursday night the national broadcaster was not present

Tbh, he's right. It should have made national news.

But they couldn't be arsed to send a film crew out to the airport to film Halligan's triumphant return!

Although they sent one out to film John's mate Shane Ross snogging Katie Taylor!

Poor John, no wonder he's miffed. And now that he's home, he has to sort out all those bloody parents demanding school buses for their kids!

I agree with you. Rte decided that the licence fee should be used on the annual lovely girls competition. A competition that should be resigned to the dark ages or at very best viewed on local Kerry internet pages, broadcast from a viewer handy cam. Halligan is a pain in the arse but this time he was correct.

Seems that Waterford's national jokeshop is annoyed because RTE failed to report that he had been on another overseas junket.

A massive fifteen countries out of the 193 (approx) in the world took part in this so-called Skills Olympics, but Brillo has decided that RTE's failure to lead the news headlines with this non-event justifies him jumping on RTE with his size 13 hobnailed boots. Presumably a call to his political colleague and SIndo hack Shameless Ross ensured that the paper did the needful!

Not in anyway defending the gob***te, but 60 countries took part, not 15. The Irish team did well, so it probably deserved some level of coverage (even 30 seconds) on RTE prime time news as a good news story.

With him not mentioned or shown obviously, as he has contributed nothing to the success.

    That's comparing apples and bicycles!

RTE's coverage of the lovely girls comp comes from its entertainment budget, as does the Eurovision comp. whereas coverage of the Halligan knees-up in the airport would have come from its news and current affairs budget.

With wall to wall coverage of significant national events like Brexit and the Beef pickets dominating the news agenda, the Halligan airport snippet comes way way down the pecking order. It's something for the local papers and radio stations to drool over, rather than our national broadcaster.

That’s a fair comment. If not news (and I agree with you it’s not) then surely a Nationwide piece would suffice ?
