I thought it was my eye site but it seems that news now is broadcasting at 704 by 576 as picture is much clearer I checked on digital bit rate which gave me the figures . The side bar text is much clearer . Hopefully thr junior channel and the plus one channel's follow suit

Confirmed by the bitrate monitoring website - http://www.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?liste=2&live=44&lang=en

I wonder if this temporary, the Irish commentary for yesterday's All Ireland was carried on RTÉ News Now channel, same with the Hurling Final.

And since I posted this the picture gave a jump and its gone back to fuzzy again and it made a fair difference alright .,it also happened on Friday and went again it was also only normal last night but this morning is was full sd and dropped back again . I'm watching on a 55 inch tv and nearly unwatchable but full sd makes a fair difference

It would be nice to believe these were some tests and things will permanently improve soon.

I did not see the higher res pic but the present one is eye-straining.

The average bitrate was still quiet low, just above 2 Mbps, similar to the VM channels.

The picture resolution has been going backwards and forwards so must be testing it out

It's been at the higher rate for over a week which suggests it was only for the GAA finals. Back at 544 now (from 720) since 11am

NewsNow is available online without any of the messing required for the "Player". Wonder was it available unrestricted abroad during the All Ireland finals?

They blocked it. Know someone in Australia who tried it.

Well that's a tacit admission by RTE that the player is sub standard since the Irish commentary was already available on RTE2 with better picture quality than NewsNow.

Yea they would try and get some money for this Gaa Go and get people to buy it.

Got a feeling this will be back up on Saturday for the replay and showing the game with Irish commentary.
