so, the greed has set in, and Motorcycle Live is no longer giving free access to the show for foreign travel visitors (which, lets me honest, is mostly Irish...).

    £10 to get in.

    https://www.motorcyclelive.co.uk/ticket-information/

It's not the £10, it's the principle. Irish visitors spend a lot of money at the show, going to the show, and staying over as well. I ended up buying a new bike in the UK as a direct result of their test rides, last year.

Very short sighted of them, given the hari-kiri they're committing on 31st October as well.

If you're minded to, drop them a message via their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/motorcyclelive/

Meanwhile, EICMA in Milan is just as accessible and only marginally more expensive. Time to spread our wings a bit ??

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Would eicma be a bigger show? Chance of more bargains per chance?

In fairness £10 for that show is fair good value. Getting in free was great but a tenner won't put me off going given how easy it is to get to.

EICMA is a bigger show with every motorcycle related supplier present but my abiding memory is that there was very little if anything you could buy there. Still a good experience though.

It is still less than half price - which seems a good deal.

Free was nice, 10er is not too bad. Its a pity.

Can't see the fuss myself. Ireland is such a small market that even if we ALL went over it would be not much of a blip on the numbers. £10 in is great value.

I have went over the last 6 yrs in a row and last year was not great at all. Maybe every 2 years would be ideal unless you need to get some gear.....The fact that they took 2 of the 3 bikes rides off the table for irish license holders was a bit **** but the cheap flights and the free in helped.

I am going again this year but only coz the daughter wanted to go as she loves the bikes and all the fleeces and team bike branded tops etc. and I need a lid for her at this stage. I got the flight for both of us return for less then 70 quid......

I am going to the German bike show next year but I think my love affair with the NEC has runs its course.....might be the London bike show from now on.

We're going this year but it'll likely be the last time for a long while. I need a whole new set of gear and I'm hoping to pick up some bargains.

Never been to Live, but EICMA is huge and bike porn. Nothing to buy there, though. I'd really only bother if you were into brand new stuff and wanted to sit on and put your mickey near every bike imaginable. Definitely helped with making my mind up when looking for a new bike. The honda stand alone was about half the size of the RDS main hall.

It sounds like the NEC show is a different deal entirely. If you're getting enough bargains to get your tenner back then happy out.

EICMA is a trade show. NEC is for everybody hence the bargains to be had.

I think we're going on a Tuesday, flying over on the Monday evening and staying in a nearby hotel. The red eye flight was killing us and to top that the crowds on the last day especially weekends are unreal.

anyhoo, another little thing to annoy us: no test rides allowed to non UK licence holders anymore either. They had it on their website (as there's one I'd like to try), so I queried it, and the official answer I got was:

" I’m afraid that we will only be accepting UK licences this year.

This was a cumulative decision taken by the manufacturers that make up the Show Committee shaping the direction of the show, give the Brexit uncertainty after the end of October and the implications this may have on our insurance for the feature."

Now, as I'd previously done one there, and subsequently bought a new AT based on it, and I was kinda thinking about changing next year, NEC would have been the place to try one.

Thats bull****, tbh iirc they have not offered rides to us "Paddys" for the last 2 yrs.....deffo 100% not last year so that has nothing to do with brexit!

    Shame really.
