Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Jean Kleyn is a walking penalty

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

Impressed by Henshaw, Van der Flier & Furlong. That's about it.

Stander has been better. 6 is best position.

Kleyn is ****e. He's South African. He's playing like a man who's playing because he can, not because he wants to. He'll be up against his home country in the quarters. Would his heart really be in it?

No Kearney? Murray looks good as well.

    As a Leinster fan,

    Bring on Carty

I don't think it's Murray's fault - welcome to be wrong - but Sexy has done nothing in that half...

Much improved performance today. Murray, Henshaw, Aki and Kearney looking very sharp in the backs. Sexton has had some lovely moments although understandably a little rusty. Only concern is the line out. Kleyn hasn’t covered himself in glory either with two poor penalties given away. Best has been very good around the pitch with one turnover and slowing down a good bit of ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,965 ✭✭✭blackwhite

Sexton was deliberately taken out there

Best had a serious go at the ref as they were walking off. Asked him to look at the hit and ref refused

no Kearney? He's arguably been our best player in that half.

    Thought he had a stormer

Easily our best performance of this warm up series. Intensity is at test level and at times we've done well to get through the Welsh defence.

We're still prone to playing too much off slow ball though. And the lineout is a definite worry. Kleyn hasn't shown anything at all this series to warrant a spot in the squad.

    Kleyn is a huge liability

We need to have a couple of set plays when things break down in attack like that, turnover felt inevitable.

Took the try very well. He definitely merits a mention.

Had a look at it again. Took a heavy hit but seemed fair enough.

Murray has had an excellent first half, JS not so much. Carty needs to get the nod now, it would be stupid to give JS the full 80 here.

    Eta: Bring on Henderson

Think only Ryan has won any ball in the line out

Keith Earls must feel like Simon Geoghegan!

Neither Aki or Henshaw can swing it out

Why are we never contesting lineouts? We dont even jump at them when they have possession...making it easy...

I seen that. Sexton was always gonna be a target but that was a blatant hit to hurt Sexton.
The French done the same in the last World Cup before we played Argentina.

    Kleyn can't jump
    Backrow isn't great at lineout

Wales marking Ryan so lineout is providing crap ball.

tipuric needs to be cleaned out of those rucks, he does a clever little knee lean on every tackled player to push them back on the ground and slows the ball.

I dont think wales have threatened our defense at all, just silly penalties and an intercept has given them field position.

Liking the addition of the occasional offload in midfield, not liking Wales disrupting our lineout.

Scrum under pressure consistently, bit worrying, Conan has done well cleaning up when it's retreating. Murray looking better than he has in ages. Kearney having a stormer, that cover rip on Biggar was brilliant.

I'm most happy about the support runners. Every break we've made, there's been someone on the shoulder, and they've actually gotten an offload.

If only Schmidt had a line-out specialist to call upon

Kearney has been great, but VDF has been everywhere.

His counter-rucking has caused Wales all sorts of problems and he’s put them back a good few times.

He’s made his tackles and has just been a nuisance on both sides of the ball. Phenomenal performance.

Kleyn’s getting the scapegoat treatment. He gave away two penalties. One for offside which can happen. Second one was a joke but he’s defended really well. I still don’t think he should be starting but he’s getting an awful doing here.

Larmour I think is having a low-key good game.

    Much improved all-over -

but still cant see how Kleyn got picked , Toner would be so much better, and must feal pretty sick watching.

Best under pressure for Scotland game -

Positives - midfield and Kearney and back-row and an overall hunger

    @Faugheen

Sexton and (I didn't even notice he is playing) Larmour are having bad games IMO

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,981 ✭✭✭Naggdefy

As a team we're improving incrementally. We all have our issues with individuals. Hopefully we're timing this right.

If you have POM in the back row you've a lineout option. But he's playing poorly and the back row looks better overall today. You rob Peter to pay Paul.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,706 ✭✭✭clsmooth

Feel a bit for Kleyn. Given away two poor penalties out of over eagerness which will be used as a stick to beat him. He’s only human and will be well aware of the sh1te spouted by the likes of Luke. No doubt trying to make a big impact and leading to silly errors.

Kleyn has been good apart from coming in from side. Offers little in the lineout but wasn't picked for that

Kleyn has the most tackles for Ireland on the pitch, 9/0

He’s been solid defensively, but that’s a team effort also.

Kleyn is doing a huge amount of work here

Yeah kleyn is been vilified for sure. He turned over a ball with a choke tackle, made a few sound tackles and carried a few times also. The maul penalty was stupid though. Don't think he has been outstanding but at least he hasn't been anonymous. The lineout is a worry though. Not just securing our own ball but Wales are guaranteed free lineout ball

Sexton is rusty, he needs to improve in this half

Completely disagree respectfully. Think Sexton has had some lovely moments. Needs game time. Larmour has been busy. Had a few nice contributions even though he hasn’t had a huge amount of ball

I enjoy his podcast, but spreading this negative energy about Kleyn is very low two weeks out from a world cup. STFU Luke. I'm a fan of Toner but he was never a great rugby player.

    Kicked straight to touch.
Gave away penalty for tackling around the neck
His intercept led to a try.

Not a good half of rugby, hopefully it improves.

So he’s given two stupid penalties, offers nothing in the lineout, made only 2 carries one of which was turned over and the scrum has been ineffective.

What exactly has been good today?

Stander reminds me of O'brien... Was very effective when he started out and could gimp people off but when he was found out and tackled well he doesn't offer much.

This the same SOB who was a lions starter a decade after breaking onto the scene? Took a while to work him out it seems

We talking about Sean O'Brien here? Two times test Lion, former European Player of the Year and at one stage the best backrow in world rugby. That guy?
