Good effort lads. They might be a little short on quality but the belief is there.

We got a draw played sh1t should we be celebrating like that.
    I think not embarassing

Jesus, our home form is bloody awful. It seems a long time since we have beaten anybody decent. The Swiss we're poor tonight and looked dodgy enough at the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

They were the better side for most of the game and we scored with our first shot on target so I'll take a 1-1.

Didn't like McCarthy's subs, particularly bringing on Judge who offered nothing. Whelan and McGoldrick did well.

I'd worry for us in the return game but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Puke football but a point is better than nothing I suppose. Why are we celebrating a draw at home?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,762 ✭✭✭bmcc10

Expected the Swiss to get Rolled over tonight but in the end it finished even Stevens.

Ireland have a team made up of extremely technically limited players.

A good result, a mediocre performance, but a very poor team.

First seed v third seed, group of vastly better players, coming from a goal behind to continue our unbeaten run.

    Dont see the problem:confused:

Georgia away , danes at home amd swiss away.

    Thats the problem.

The difference between Ireland and Switerland summed up in the Swiss goal.

    We just can't do that.

The panel showing Ireland's good play and it's McClean tackling lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,006 ✭✭✭edgecutter

Good result given the context, but you have to worry about the last three fixtures. I can't see us causing an upset, we're just too limited at the moment.

The Swiss weren't great tonight and we may rue not gambling more against them.

Got a draw out of a game in which we were firmly second best, bloody right they should be celebrating.

In general, I'm all for people finding positivity and celebration in any moment they can, rather than this stoic nonsense of being embarrassed by any show of joy that doesn't come after complete and total success. If you can only take pleasure out of absolute unmitigated success, you won't be very happy very often.

Switzerland are ranked 14th in the world.

And the way the game played out. It feels like a point gained than lost.

    Still unbeaten in the group.

Decent result. Down €50, but I’d rather it in Paddy Powers pocket than John Delaney’s.

I'll definitely take that. We were outplayed but kept fighting and got the point.

I haven't read the rest of the thread but I'm sure there was the usual clueless comments but I thought Whelan had a very good game. He had his usual blocks and tackles but he also spread the play very well to set up attacks and was very unlucky with his shot. I would have given him man of the match for Ireland.
