Why wouldn't they. Plenty of land owners along there still that might like to sell aswell

As previously posted much of that land is set aside for the Bish school to move there in return for the University getting their land to expand onto Nun's Island.

They also don't need to sell and under no pressure to do so.

Would be happy if they did. A good location for a DPC.
I'd say it will be a long time before the Bish moves out if they ever do .

Maybe, but the €200 million NUIG plan for Nun's Island redevelopment is out for public consultation. The Government’s Urban Regeneration and Development Fund has already indicated its support for the project so government and business finance is expected. NUIG want the Bish land and the Bish want NUIG land. Just a matter of time, and sooner rather than later I expect.

So you don't want Ireland to be a place of refuge for those fleeing persecution? That's the crux, isn't it? It's a clear yes or no.

So you don't want Ireland to be a place of refuge for those fleeing persecution? Just give a straight answer and say it.

Persecution? The only Persecution the majority are fleeing are the incredibly poor social welfare payouts in their home country!

Can't get an honest answer from the refugee haters here. They're happy to spout bile, untruths, anecdotal nonsense and factually distorted nonsense. All of the above is easily corrected but their cognitive dissonance won't allow them to accept the truth.

They clearly don't want Ireland to be a place of refuge for those fleeing persecution but disguise it in a pseudo-perturbed concern for others or a raising of mythical falsehoods about rampaging criminal foreigners. People denied asylum claims leave voluntarily or get deported. Facts won't convince them so I must ask what is it they expect.

You don't want refugees but we're signed up to the post-WWII 1951 Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol. Do you think we're going to renege on them because of a few lies or ill-informed online protests? You think Ireland is going to become a pariah state that won't accept its obligations in the 21st century? You'll be disappointed so please direct your bile elsewhere.

So, still no answer. Thought not. At least have the cojones to say you don't like foreigners rather than feign concern for the plight of some and the demonisation of others. The anger will eat you up but the world will spin along as it continues to do. The hate will endure from some but it's only got limited appeal in what is now one of the most progressive societies in Europe. And we ain't going backwards.

There is no refugee haters on here no matter what you or the other one claim.

And no the majority who are denied asylum don't get deported or leave voluntary with a wad of cash .

    They stay indefinitely

We have elections that ask people on the street. So far no party endorsing your opinions is getting anywhere. Nor will they. We don't have the taste for picking on foreigners in a progressive society.

And where can you read of other nationalities getting houses? From a blog by Seamus down the street?

Stick to facts, not made up nonsense.

Sorry to break this to u, but we just cannot afford to hand spoofers a set of house keys n full welfare after a few years of appeals in direct provision.
We are the third most indebted country in the oecd iirc, theres a million people on hospital lists and brexit or worldwide recession in the pipeline.
But hey at least we're progressive!!

I live in Noel Grealish's constituency. He has massive support. You don't have to agree with or like his opinions but to claim otherwise is utterly deluded.

It's not racist at all to point social problems in a disadvantaged area, it is fairly racist just to point out the colours you don't like though.

    ;)

Is it racist to tell bogus asylum seekers to piss off and stop wasting our time and money?

Yeaaah. Bollocks. They get housing assistance like anyone else who qualifies, and are in the same boat as anyone else struggling to find affordable accommodation. Last year 11% of people in direct provision were stuck there despite gaining asylum or leave to remain. They just can’t get affordable accommodation.

It’s not racist, just remarkably dumb. You’re in no position to know who’s claim is ‘bogus’. That the job of the claims system.

Close to 100% of Albanians and Georgians are bogus. Its needle in a haystack stuff to find a genuine one. We are spending tens of millions to house bogus ones just to find an odd genuine one.

At least you agree that people who despise bogus claimants aren't racist.

That’s the responsibility that comes with our legal obligation to process asylum seekers.

Swings and roundabouts. It'll head leftwards again soon as it already has in Spain, Slovakia, Italy and elsewhere. Germany will be interesting, for all the talk about the AfD it's the Greens who are surging.

Be also aware also that the colossal omnishambles that is Brexit has turned the tide against anti-EU rightist parties. And in the Uk itself the next government may well be a progressive coalition.

As do I. He'll have support from some areas but he'll lose votes in Galway City and elsewhere. He came in second last time on the 13th count. Won't be long before we see how he does next time.

How can you explain how they manage to get to Ireland?, there are no direct flights from most of these countries, they lie to get to the golden ticket that is Ireland and England.
The genuine people can't afford the prices to get here, hence why there are relocation programmes.
If Ireland followed the legalisation as you say in another post we WOULD be better off, the Dublin regulation agreement is not enforced here despite it being the DUBLIN agreement.
The deportation stats are horrendous when you realise how many are coming in on a weekly basis and how many are deemed illegible.
Fair play to the people in the town for standing up and saying it, yet as always they are portrayed badly on the news and the government.
