Dirty sneaky scumbag, hope the judge gives him a nice bit of jail time for that.

Well done to the lads that intervened as quick as the did, otherwise it would have being a lot worse.

    Cowardly act.
Made sure he had the advantage over an non-boxer who was actually sitting down eating.
No wonder he won feck all in the ring.
Pure coward. Hope he pays for it but won’t be holding my breath.

So gonna assume several households in Cavan will be playing that on repeat and cheering him on!

Some serious head-cases up in that region still, since this is still an active thing to keep happening.

Thats a very nasty assault, I dont care if its his first offence he needs to be doing prison time for that. What a cowardly act as well, throwing hot tea in the colleagues face to disable him and then punching Lunney several times in the face while he is still in his chair.

Id also worry about that video being leaked, its not fair on Kevin Lunney that his kids are going to see that now and no doubt it will be the only topic at their school on Monday. There is a very limited amount of people who would have had access to that CCTV as it would have become part of the chain of evidence for the prosecution. Questions need to be asked as to who leaked it and what was their motive.

The article says he faces up to five years in prison, really that should be the minimum for such a brutal assault.

So, three years with 18 months suspended. Out in 12 months!

That wasn't his first time getting the drop on someone.

There wasn't actually anything cowardly about it. It was sh!ty/scummy/predatory/etc but not cowardly. If yer going to get the jump on someone it's logical to maximize yer advantage.

Depression was mentioned and his father was sacked. Id say he won't even do any jail time unfortunately. He'll pay some compensation and get a suspended sentence. Our system is just so lenient.

If throwing a cup of hot tea into someone's face and hitting another man sitting down is not a cowardly act, then I don't know what is.

A lowlife that's all he is and I hope he gets his comeuppance for it.

The very act of getting the jump on someone is cowardice, there is no bravery involved whatsoever. Its no different to punching someone in the back of the head so they cant see it coming. The element of surprise for sure but it is still cowardice. Like was the boxer afraid of Lunney, I doubt it but his actions show him as a coward for how he did it.

No it's not. People seem to attribute some altruistic feeling to violence. Square up and have a go and the best man wins type of thing.

A lad in Dublin was only given 6 years this week for assault and attempted kidnapping of an elderly woman. Ridiculous leniency.
No chance this coward gets five if that’s the standard.
He’ll have no end of character references from do-gooders.

I think people dont want to see violence at all but given it happens would see someone getting the jump on someone else and attacking them suddenly and unprovoked as cowardice. There is nothing brave about doing that.

What did this boxer think was going to happen if he waited for Lunney in the garage forecourt and then squared up to him? He obviously wasnt willing to do that and instead attacked him while he was sitting down eating his breakfast. Some boxer he is, clearly he was afraid of a fair fight which is cowardice personified. Anyone can batter the head of anyone else if they are not expecting it, there is absolutely nothing brave about doing so.

The man that instructed the boxer to give him a beating wasn’t interested in a bit of fair play. He wanted a person to be effed up.

McGovern was sentenced today to three years and three months for assaulting Mr Lunney, and five months to be served concurrently for the attack on Mr O'Reilly.

The judge was asked by McGovern's counsel if consideration could be given to suspending a portion of the sentenced handed down, but he replied given all the factors of the case, that such leniency would not be "appropriate".

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,663 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Thats a good result because we have seen the perpetrators of similar assaults walk free with suspended sentence.

Id say the CCTV of the assault getting leaked to the media and shown on RTE helped to concentrate the mind of the judge in sentencing too. If he suspended that sentence after everyone had seen the video the judge himself would have been national news.

    This sh;t always annoys me.

He assaulted 2 separate people and should serve the time for both crimes separately.

Not sure it has any relevance to the ongoing situation at Quinn's...a seedy common assault that goes on everywhere in the country everyday of the week.

    What is your point?

Except it's linked to someone who worked for Quinn, losing their job there. How is that not relevant?

I'm guessing that Francie means it is unrelated to the campaign of intimidation and eventually kidnap and torture despite it being against senior Quinn employees.

It's related, in so far as it shows how the directors are viewed and have been treated. I don't think it matters whether it was directly connected to other intimidation tactics.
