Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sight Poles

The council have come back looking for Further Information on our application relating to 3 things. 2 are straightforward, but the final one is to erect red & white sight poles at the gable ends of the proposed house, to represent the ridge roof height.

There is little or no information online. Our engineer said in his experience, people would put down 2 fence poles, and then slide connected sewer pipes down over the poles. You'd have to drill holes on the top pipe, and feed guide ropes through, which would be tied onto a weight on the ground to ensure stability of the pole. He suggested 5 inch ESB ducting, as it's red already, so you would only have to paint the white parts. My understanding is that you'd have a meter red, meter white, meter red etc.

Has anyone had experience of doing this? How do the council measure this when they visit site? If the height of the pipes come to 8m (each are 1m in length) , and the ridge height is 7.5m for instance, would you have to cut the top pipe, or can you just put a mark on it to denote the height of the house?

All probably silly questions, but for once Google hasn't come up with any answers :D

Very easy to measure the height these days with a laser range finder.

Best to crop the pipes the exact height
