Americans saving the Japanese from an attack by the Germans.

    Agree to keep seeding secret.

    TV shows /= movies.

Band of Brothers is great, but it doesn’t belong in this competition. At all.

There are only 2 real Xmas war movies.

The Great Escape and Von Ryan's Express, can't remember a Christmas without them being on at sometime or other.

Of interest of course is "White Christmas", yes, the one with Bing Crosby which opens as them doing a Christmas show for the US Army's 151st Division.

I think I need to watch Apocalypse Now again. I didn't really like it the first time around. I watched to out of reputation and it didn't live up.

    Yeah, it was crap, tbh.

It has its moments but like Colonel Kurtz, while it can be mesmerising in parts it's a bloated incoherent mess

Starting with a bang here -

    Saving Private Ryan

    VS

    Sink The Bismarck

Reminder: it's first to 5 votes to progress - And give a reason!!

    Saving Private Ryan

For the realism, difficult to contrast the effects available today with the miniature models when Bismark was filmed, so on effects a win for Ryan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,459 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

Saving Private Ryan - sure its as Irish as the quiet man

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,188 ✭✭✭rameire

    Saving Private Ryan
for the action sequences, and the feel of the movie, it was quite personable and terrifying at times.

    🌞 3.8kwp, 🌞 Split 2.28S, 1.52E. 🌞 Clonee, Dub.🌞

Haven't seen Sink the Bismark so abstaining this round.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,303 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

3-0 and the Bismarck looks like sinking without a trace already.

Still time for that to change though....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,628 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

    Saving Private Ryan,

It's just action from the very opening, great movie one of the tops and will take something special to beat it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,344 ✭✭✭fixXxer

    Sink The Bismark.

Literally cannot stand looking at Tom Hanks' face.

    Saving Private Ryan advances 5-1

Disdain for Tom Hanks as a reason?

Next we move a little closer to home but does that matter in this contest? Let's find out:

    Michael Collins

    VS

Saving Private Ryan, adopted Wexican only a grenade throw away from Curracloe.

Michael Collins - what I say for Saving Private Ryan? Well the same

I think leeson would beat law in fisty cuffs, so we'll give this wan to collins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,896 ✭✭✭✭Spook_ie

    Enemy at the gates

Much more feel as a war movie rather than a historical outing like Collins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭FortuneChip

    Enemy At The Gates.
Great opening battle, lovely score throughout, and Ed Harris is top drawer.

Docking Micky Collins for the inclusion of Julia Roberts, and blatant implication of who was behind the assassination.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,452 ✭✭✭ZV Yoda

Enemy at the Gates - for the sniper scene alone. Ed Harris is super in this

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,089 ✭✭✭Krombopulos Michael

Enemy At The Gates. Ed Harris performance as a nazi officer was brilliant and Ron Perlman was funny too.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,303 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    4-2 currently to Enemy.

One more vote can win it...

Or can Micky Collins stage a rally after a good start?

Enemy At The Gates snipes Michael Colins to win 5-2

Next match coming up shortly :)

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,303 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Continuing with the trend of war movies on the homefront.... but it's up against what many consider an absolute classic.

Schindlers List - A masterclass of film making. That red coat shot is legendary by itself.
