Inglorious Bastards - It is a smarter movie all around. The concept of burning the 3rd Reich using movie filmreel was never mentioned before, for this reason alone it gets my vote, it is a more inventive film.

Coin toss here but I’ll go the great escape, just because Even though the scenes in IG are incredible, the story does not tie them all together properly where The great escape is the opposite

Timeless classic. Cool actors & memorable characters. Not all Yank ra-ra. Shows how prisoners can carry on the struggle. Comedy. Tension. Theme tune . And EVERYTIME, I think Steve might make it over the fence this time....

That beach scene made me realise how truly horrible war is.

Saving Private Ryan - I am not surprised, it is quite simply the Best War Movie ever. I forgot to mention the coward journalist when I posted earlier. I can't remember when this subject was broached before in a war movie. Your either a fully trained up killer or you are not, but a lot of the men who landed on the beaches were picked out of a draft and off to war they were sent. It was poignant to see that not all of them were up for it and what an absolute nightmare it must have been to deal with.

Another vote for Saving Private Ryan here.

I think that Full Metal Jacket is infinitely a better film than either of these BUT

In a straight shoot out in this match it's 100 per cent going to SPR, that beach scene alone sways it over The Great Escape, which I don't have as much love for as others to be perfectly honest.

The great escape. - one scene does not make a great movie. a great movie if a great movies because the whole movie is great. That is the definition of the great escape. saving private ryan had a great beach d=day storming scene, nobody is denying that, but over all, the great escape is an epic movie, not just one scene, its 2 hrs and 52 mins of greatness, not just a couple of minutes of greatness followed my 2 and a half hours of not so great.

Saving Private Ryan again for me, the stellar cast and the realism is just stunning.

The Great Escape is also great, but in a head to head, Saving Private Ryan has to win out.
