Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Gallipoli.

Despite having aged badly, a movie about the horrors of the Great War deserves to get through.

They should do a "re-make" and feature the Irish who went out and were slaughtered in what has mostly become a forgotten episode for the majority.

    Fast as a leopard!
    ***PFEEEEEEEEEEEP!***

I’ve seen none of these either but I’ll vote for Gallipoli cause I like waltzing Matilda and Banjos post

    First Blood
I actually prefer this to the sequel as it's more grounded.

    Also the alternative ending!!

3 - 3 between First Blood and Gallipoli so far

Rambo is glorification of a domestic terrorist, people!

    He's not a terrorist. He's white, so he's a lone wolf

I've only seen one so don't feel I can vote

I worry that's going to be the case quite often for me

    That's your decision :)

Though if it's a favourite why not give it a leg up :D

I think it's very unfair in a battle royale

Gotta say you've three films I'd have nominated if I'd been on the ball, gotta go first blood though. An absolutely cracking movie with some real grit.

Love Gallipoli and We were soldiers so sad not to give them a vote, but yeah Rambo baby

There are no rules in a battle royale!! It's kill or be killed!!!

Stalag 17 because it was the first POW movie and it’s brilliant. Also, Billy Wilder directed so that’s reason enough.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,215 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    Rambo edges ahead 4-3.

Battle Royales are brutal, multiple good movies fall but this is War Movies folks (and I wanted to try and include them all)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,741 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

    I vote Rambo.

    It's awesome

What's the story with Rambo , he's moved onto the Mexicans now and not the Asians?

    Lord of War is brilliant!!!

    Nicolas Cages best film. Imo.

The opening intro. 'The Life of a bullet' wow.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Yeah, going with Lord of War here.

Lots of lovely ambiguous philosophical arguments to enjoy.

Lord of War, the opening scene following the bullet was brilliant

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Lord of War for the opening and because WH is overtly manipulative sentimental tosh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

I'll go War Horse cause I have previous with Nick Cage

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,215 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

4-1 to Lord of War here so far

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭MrKingsley

I’ve not seen either so no use for this one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,332 ✭✭✭fixXxer

I'll finish it like the bullet in the intro

Lord of War, very clever movie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    Lord of War

Cage is great (although I disagree with Valeyard, his best is 8mm) and Warhorse is tosh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

We should defo run a best nicolas cage movie contest sometime.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,215 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Lord of War shoots through War Horse like that bullet in the intro. 5-1 the scoreline.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,215 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Speaking of Nic Cage... Actually he's not in this battle :D Fantasy and reality clash here in an interesting match up

    Hunt for Red October.
that Russian accent is pure genius, and never questionable.
    plus another of my suggestions.

    🌞 3.8kwp, 🌞 Split 2.28S, 1.52E. 🌞 Clonee, Dub.🌞

Thfro, not a rotr fan and its directed by the guy who directed the best christmas movie ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

That's an amazing match up! I genuinely don't know...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭MrKingsley

    I’ll go LOTR.

Really didn’t enjoy Red October and the a action sequences in the Two Towers were class

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,215 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

4-1 to Red October so far...

Two towers for the battle of helm's deep

And I'm not letting it get walked over here

THFRO is a great film, so tense, and Connery's accent is spot-on.

But, The Two Towers (the strongest of the LOTR franchise) is my pick because that battle of Helms Deep is fecking brilliant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,492 ✭✭✭bennyineire

LOTR battle scenes were so ahead of anything at the time for CGI

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,751 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tabnabs

Red October for an outstandingly memorable script.

Capt. Bart Mancuso: Conn, aye. All right, Ryan, we just unzipped our fly. Mr. Thompson! Open the outer doors, firing point procedures. Now if that bastard so much as twitches, I'm going to blow him straight to Mars.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,215 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    4-3..

benny is that a vote for LOTR?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,332 ✭✭✭fixXxer

I love both these movies. Helms deep is so epic. I hadn't read the books when I saw it and was enthralled.

    But

I also really love The Hunt For Red October. The dread of the submarine battle is fantastic

Going LOTR as a safe vote here.

Hunt For Red October wins 5-3 (possibly 4 but it doesn't matter)

    Next match coming up shortly

Red October. The transition from Russian to English was great

Red October is Connery at his finest.
Two towers didn't stand up to the test is time for me
