Finished Stranger over the weekend and thought it was very good. Fled through the 8 episodes. Part of it seemed a little OTT and the ending was a bit odd but overall solid 7/10.

we've just watched it and I'm just a little bit wondering
what in sweet jesus happened to female lawbreaker (a) who blackmailed several people for vast sums of money and resulting in multiple deaths (b) her associate (c) Munchhausen syndrome child abuser, all of this versus every single male protagonist who was either shot dead or arrested.

Whatever your stance girl power stuff, this was baffling. 1.5/10 half a point jennifer saunders showing she can do something other than that duo sh*te

i watched the first episode, and was undecided on it , it's worth watching the rest ?

It is worth watching , the rest of the episodes mainly focus on his dedication (fuelled by grief imo ) to save other young people from dying of OxyContin addiction , by going after the big pharma and unscrupulous Doctors .

Nah, not particularly. There's supernatural elements to it but it's no 'Haunting On Hill House' if that's what you're expecting.

Just saw the ad. Too spooky for me!

Ah it's not really, I'm really enjoying it too. It's like Sex Education crossed with Buffy.

I agree entirely. The end was awful. Rushed and left everything a part from a simple tie up of main character's story line completely up in the air.

Started The Stranger a few days ago. Think I am on episode 5, given how over the top and coincidental it is, my expectations are now set very low.

Really hope the fat annoying kid gets killed.

Anyone else watched The Devil Next Door?

I thought it was pretty good and didn’t outstay it’s welcome in its 5 episode format, unlike some of their recent documentaries.

I’m old enough to remember the 80s but just don’t remember this case at all.

The Jewish defence lawyer was one strange fish.

Watched it today. One of the most honest and gripping documentaries I've watched in years. Despite the flaws in the prosecution there was something definitely off about his demeanor in court. How could he sit through that horrifying testimony without showing any emotion? He also seemed to revel in the public attention his trial brought. To me that would be a red flag, someone who loves attention.

One of the unheralded (if often theoretical) benefits of streaming is how much more accessible it can make film - including film history. I’ve often been deeply critical of Netflix in that regard: their back catalogue of classic / independent / world / even American cinema is woefully lacking, given the money at their disposal. But sometimes things work out, and so many Ghibli films being easily available to such a wide audience is an unambiguously good thing as far as I’m concerned. If people out there get as much joy out of the films as I’ve gotten over the years thanks to Netflix accessibility, that’s a wonderful thing :)

Completely agree re streaming. For years when you were renting or buying a film or album, it was a calculated risk about whether you would like it or not, and that influenced your choice.

With film and music streaming services, there is no risk as you're paying a sub. Consequently, you can try anything you like. I think it's one if the main reasons a lot of people just listen to everything these days. It's all gone post genre

Hi stiles is worth a watch, it’s a decent Christian Bale western.

Finished The Stranger... absolute crap. How shows like this get made and have well known actors is a mystery.

Watched Horse Girl, that was a very enjoyable film. Alison Brie can play manic quite well. She has the large frantic eyes to really sell it.

Narcos Mexico 2 arriving tomorrow. Hope it’s better than Mexico 1 which wasn’t as good as the Colombia seasons.

I liked it and thought it wrapped up pretty well (for the most part).
It was an interconnected collection of mysteries with a few loose ends, but I can live with those.

I read an interview with Harlan Coben yesterday and he said he didn't think there would be a second season. It's a complete story as it is.

I suspect Netflix are looking at his back catalogue of books though... this has been a huge success for them.

Watched To All The Boys: PS I Still Love You last night, not as good as the first one but still delightfully charming.

I don't think I'll bother with the next Harlan Coben's whatever to be honest.
Safe and The Stranger both seemed kinda intriguing to start, just turned into a mish-mash of open questions and had no real pay off or satisfactory resolution imo.
I only have the stranger a chance cos I thought they might have avoided the same problems as Safe and lived up to the potential. But seems this is just Coben's style (assuming they are true to the books) so I'm out.

It's definitely no Prime Suspect or the likes

I've watched Safe and thought it was cack - I've read two of his novels and thought they were cack

Both the show and the novels have the same problem, the twists are too far out there and the resolution usually leaves more questions than it answers - so I think you are right when you say that its Coben's writing style across the board

All that being said, I probably will watch The Stranger because it will be a soft program to pass the evenings during that gap between programs I actually want to watch

It'a going to be weird watching Narcos Mexico 2 at the same time as Maradona in Sinaloa. I'll be expecting DEA agents to arrest Diego at any moment!

Just finished Safe, struggled to finish it, wasn't the best. The stranger was alright. Went on a Ricky Gervais binge, watched Derek and the afterlife enjoyed both.

Waiting on the latest season on Line of Duty. Any idea if House of cards will ever be updated or has it been scrapped?

    Its a disgrace Joe!
