Hi,

I use iTunes on my PC to rip all my cd's to apple lossless and currently connect the PC's soundcard which is built onto the motherboard (not a specialist sound card) by a 3.5mm to 2 phono lead to my Denon AVR.

I was looking into any possibilities for being able to get better sound from this setup as I have CD quality files being played through a very basic and probably very out of date soundcard.

I was reading on a AV forum that if you use an external DAC with your PC it acts as an external soundcard and by passes the computers own soundcard is this correct.

Looking on your website I saw the following items of interest Audioquest Dragonfly black USB DAC/Headphone Amp @ £76 and the Cyrus soundKey USB DAC/Headphone Amp @ £79 (currently £69 VIP price on your online catalogue)

Would these be suitable and improve my sound quality and if so which would be best suited for my needs and what is the best prices on these items? Or can you recommend anything else that would be better?

    Thanking you

    Hi

    Thanks for the post.

Both those unit will do the job for you, there is very little difference in sound quality between the two units, but the cyrus might just have the edge

    Hi Beaker_2010,

You would need a USB cable to go into it and a 3.5mm to Phono cable for connecting to your AV receiver.

If you take the sound from the USB it will bypass the sound card.

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

    David
