I'm pretty certain President Trump is going to win in November. I can't believe the Democrats have narrowed their options to such a poor bunch. I think they'll probably settle on a Biden/Harris ticket, and that's bloody shocking to me.

Bernie has very high ratings actually.

Why do you say that? And what do you mean by "let?"

If he gets too close to the Sun, they'll pull the same stuff as in 2016.

Rightly or wrongly, I think the party fears that Bernie is too out there to win where the Dems badly need to. He's an unashamed socialist, fine but that and his history won't fly nationwide.

    Oh, bother.

Under Donald Trump the USA is doing well, very well, in fact. Actually the USA my be at its strongest since the end of WWII (when we were the strongest nation in the world).

Labor participation rate is breaking records and unemployment is at historic lows. Wages are increasing at a faster levels for the lower income folks than those at the top. The stock market keeps breaking record highs. Congress has finally passed the new USA/Mexico/Canada trade deal which will create many new create jobs here and in those two countries. And China has agreed to a historic trade deal.

Trump was right when he was campaigning back in the 2016 election that under his leadership we could begin to get tired of so much winning.

So Donald Trump has earned the title of Mr. President, and then some.

    Jealous much?

You can ignorantly accuse me of "whataboutism," but what it really is involves identifying similar scenarios in order to see if it holds up when the shoe is on the other foot!

After the election, a friend of mine paid a lot of heed to Nobel winner Paul Krguman when he said that the win meant an imminient recession and stock market crash. He completely exited the North American markets. I continued putting my regular amounts into an S&P 500 tracker. Annulaised returns of 15% since.

I'm not jealous but I do always get a good wind-up from my friend when I bring it up :D

Editorial from a Fox news contributor counting 20 tGOP votes to convict in the Senate: https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/478955-juan-williams-counting-the-votes-to-remove-trump

IMO, the only way it happens is if there are like 30 votes to convict, which isn't likely to say the least. These pols first and foremost are cowards. Unless there's a flood voting to convict, it won't happen.

Employment rates, stocks, etc are not the best indicators of a country doing as well as it could or should be. There is also widespread poverty, lack of resources. The unemployment rate is low and jobs high because many have to take up 2-3 jobs just to pay bills and support their families. That is not healthy. Speaking of, their health care system is an absolute disgrace, and the highest incidences of filing for bankruptcy there is due to inability to pay medical bills. Cost of 3rd level education is through the roof and millions are left deeply in debt they can't get out of, preventing saving, buying a house, going on holiday's, paying bills, rearing a family, etc. The country is deeply divided socially and has huge problems with racism and gun violence. There is no mandatory paid holidays (vacation) nor is there any entitlement to family or maternity leave. Their infrastructure is aging and all of this could be resolved and sorted out but their government chooses to spend more money on their military than the next 7 major countries combined, or something like that. And finally, they're even only doing as economically well as they are thanks to OBAMA, not Trump. Trump hasn't earned or achieved sh*t.

I love how the metrics have changed. 4 years ago it was all how Trump will crash the economy etc. Now it's "Well shure it's thanks to Obama" and well the economy etc isn't that important. All the stuff (amass shootings etc) that happened under Obama continued to happen under Trump. Oh no, Drumpf is finished now.

And before I'm attacked, I think Obama did a great job on the economy.

Yes President Trump is the 3rd US president to be impeached. And he will be the 3rd US president to be exhonerated. But in doing so Nancy Pelosi has adulterated the impeachment process. Now being impeached means next to nothing in the eyes of the voters because Pelosi proved it has nothing to do with treason, high crimes or misdemeanors, it is now simply a political ploy from a party that will do anything to make a president from another party look bad. And she has made it that when a president going forward, in which the opposing political party controls the House, they will find some reason to impeach that president. Nancy Pelosi should slither back to the scum pond she spawned from for what she has done to this country.

LOL. If Obama would have achieved either the employment rate or stock price levels we see under Trump we'd be carving Obama's likeness on Mount Rushmore.

    Trump makes himself look bad.

Either way he has been impeached because he tried again to get a foreign government to involve themselves in a US election.

That is an actual fact and in any other normal circumstances, he wouldn't have been impeached he would have resigned.

Are you happy going forward to have Democratic presidents enlist the help of foreign governments to help them personally against political rivals in elections?

    But here's the thing though..

At the same point in his Presidency Obama had created more Jobs and the stock market had increased by a greater amount.

The absolutes are higher for Trump (as they would be given that he started with a very strong economy) but his % Improvements are quite a way behind.

He hasn't broken the economy yet (although lots of evidence to suggest that the bubble he created with his tax cuts will come home to roost fairly soon), but he really hasn't done anything to accelerate it either.

Overall , Trump has created less jobs and has added less value to the Stock Market than every President since Reagan at the same point in their Presidencies , with the exception of GWB.

    TL;DR

Trump, starting from a very high base has hit a number of "highs" , but overall his economic performance on a % basis is mediocre at best when compared to any other President in the last 40 years.

Things were so bad they pretty much had not way to go but up under Obama. And I'd argue they have gotten better faster if not for the policies Obama enacted.

And when will the left finally retire that old unpersuasive argument… It’s really Obama’s good economy, not Trumps? It’s absurd not to give Trump credit for the current state of the economy and jobs market. The moment Trump took office the financial markets soared and haven’t looked back, despite a few minor corrections. The economic optimism that fueled growth, wages and jobs were a direct result from policies that Obama and the Democrats opposed… lower taxes and regulatory reform. And no one can predict how long the positive trends will last or not, or whether it might be undermined by other policies.

You can ignorantly accuse me of "whataboutism," but what it really is involves identifying similar scenarios in order to see if it holds up when the shoe is on the other foot!
