Explain how a successful business man can bankrupt two casinos!

Just to remind you, casinos are places dumb people go to and basically throw their money at the owner, on the odd occasion he throws something back, the house never loses...unless the house is owned by Trump it seems!

Only an absolute idiot could bankrupt and lose money owning a casino!!

I bet if Harrahs or Harveys put you/me/anyone on boards in charge of one of their casino's we'd bankrupt it.

Henry Ford went bankrupt before bouncing back. As did Walt Disney, HJ Heinz, Larry King, William Durant, Francis Ford Copolla, PT Barnum, Mick Fleetwood, Stan Lee, Abe Lincoln.

    Also, The Donald.
But, but, but... Orange Man Bad!

You can ignorantly accuse me of "whataboutism," but what it really is involves identifying similar scenarios in order to see if it holds up when the shoe is on the other foot!

How could Trump be an idiot.

He won the election from nowhere.

He defeated the Democrats re Russia and Ukraine.

He will win again in November.

If he is an idiot then the Democratic supporters are ?????.

And you can add Mitt Romney to that. I hope they destroy him.

Boo! Hiss! Look the story is that the man who beat out the two big political dynastys to come from nowhere to be President of the US, in what was widely agreed to be an absolute shoe-in for his opponent, is a failure.

I heard his time in 3rd grade at school were the best six years of his life.

Lots of business men do thats the nature of big business, big risk, big reward, he seems to be doing well at the moment, He's still the president though ... I would say a rich man who is the president of the USA is "flourishing", would you not?

Lots of businessmen go bankrupt 6 times?
He inherited millions and lost it all.
How do you know he’s doing well, he won’t release his taxes?

But people feel confident saying he's broke somehow without his taxes also ?? I mean even if the guy has lets say 5 million in the bank and is the president of the US I would still consider that to be "flourishing"
Its amazing how none of his political opponents seem to be able to stop or beat the biggest loser and doofus to ever walk upright.

I was never a fan of the man but the vitriol in which people attack him and try to literally equate him to hitler has actually made him into a bit of a sympathetic figure in my eyes, as mad as it sounds.
Well its made me sceptical of claims made about him anyway.
Which is surprising as I would have never thought I'd be of this opinion back in 2016.

You can tell his intelligence by the language he used but who cares if he is intelligent or not he tapped into a certain section of American society and in that way he was smart.

As for a successful business man, nobody knows how succesful he is because he wont release his returns. So I can claim to be a billionaire and no you cant see my bank account statement to prove it.

As for being a successful developer, it was shown that if he took the money his father gave him and invested in index funds i.e. doing nothing. he would be better off than what he would is reported to be now

So, genius, which ones of those asset claims are false?

to be fair how much borrowings does he have against the properties, you can not make an assessment unless you have the full picture

Duh! You can't have over 515 business ventures without borrowing and a few failures. Did you know that in the US statistically about 80-90% of businesses fail within the first year to eighteen months?

Well there are sworn testimony with documentation that Trump is known to inflate and deflate the valuations of said assets depending on who he's talking to.

And you wonder why he won't release his tax returns because, oh I don't know, he may have committed insurance fraud!

Have you independently verified documentation to back up those claims? No, I didn't think so

What are you talking about? I am talking about all his properties and how much debt he has. For a guy who has a track record of racking up huge debt, who can say how much of his property is leveraged.

Of course not. Don't be a doofus.

Beyond wealth lets look at another factor. A CNNMoney analysis calculates there are 22,450 direct employees/jobs attributable to Trump, and there are many other jobs that would not exist without Trump. Economists call this the "multiplier effect." The state of New York says that "leisure and hospitality" companies like Trump's typically have a 1.5 multiplier effect. Using that multiplier the Trump Organization is responsible for about 34,000 jobs. And if you view the Trump Organization as a financial services or management company, then the employment multiplier would be 3 bringing the jobs attributable of Trump to 67,000.

Bloomberg (whose owner is running against Trump) calculates Trump’s personal wealth at around $3 billion US.

You can ignorantly accuse me of "whataboutism," but what it really is involves identifying similar scenarios in order to see if it holds up when the shoe is on the other foot!

Nobody on this earth can, not even Trump himself. His assets (and business structure) are just too massive and diverse. The best anyone can do is rely on analysis and estimates of experts. It's not brain science.

Yes, politically nowhere. No backing or base in either party, no prior experience in a political role.

to be fair I am sure his CFO and the IRS could tell you.

If I were to hazard I guess I would say his net worth is probably around 200-300 million

There is no point debating his wealth as the full facts are not on display and thats the way he wants it evidently.

Have you noticed a number of posters here have seemingly signed onto the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez school of reasoning.

    One of her recent gems…
“It’s a physical impossibility to lift yourself up by a bootstrap, by your shoelaces? It’s physically impossible. The whole thing is a joke.”

That’s like saying… “It's a physical impossibility to be in a pickle. Inside an actual pickle? Our bodies are too big. It’s physically impossible. The whole thing is a joke!” (shout-out to Tom Elliot for that one)

to be fair alot of credit has to go to Kelly Ann, she really played a stormer for him and he really had a good social media team behind him and his style struck a cord with a certain number of people.

I think thats the issue with him, its the reason he rubs people up the wrong way, his demeanor. He is not a pleasant guy and I am sure even his most ardent fans would admit to that but some people love that about him others hate it. If he sat quietly in the Oval Office going about his business his approval ratings would probably be much higher but he cant resist as he is a narcacist.

This thread shows how polarising he is, you either love him or hate him. The majority of Americans hate him evidently but due to Americas weird "democracy" that doesnt matter

The reason for that remark by AOC was to get to the etymology of the phrase, which is that it's physically impossible to do so. It's about the fact that not everyone can get ahead just by working hard, therefore it's as ludicrous to suggest as pulling oneself up by their bootstraps.
