:D I just had to look that one up. Bloody hell.

The reason for that remark by AOC was to get to the etymology of the phrase, which is that it's physically impossible to do so. It's about the fact that not everyone can get ahead just by working hard, therefore it's as ludicrous to suggest as pulling oneself up by their bootstraps.

So metaphors are above her level of intelligence?

You can ignorantly accuse me of "whataboutism," but what it really is involves identifying similar scenarios in order to see if it holds up when the shoe is on the other foot!

That’s like saying… “It's a physical impossibility to be in a pickle. Inside an actual pickle? Our bodies are too big. It’s physically impossible. The whole thing is a joke!” (shout-out to Tom Elliot for that one)

I am actually geniunely fascinated why people like you and FOX are so obsessed with her. She comes across as a person who geniunely cares about people and her country and yes may have radical plans that realisitically may not work but the abuse she gets is very interesting. She is not nasty like Trump so I just wonder why she attracts so much venom

:D Was that up for debate?

I've got a secret. I can't physically fall head over heels. It's impossible. My head is always over my heels. I can't fall upwards. It makes no sense, the whole thing is a joke.

Do you have independently verified pickle studies to back that up ??

I'm pretty sure that the point AOC was making was that more Right-wing politicians talk about "allowing" people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps as an actual policy position. Pretending she doesn't understand the metaphor is just disingenuous. The metaphor started as an example of a ridiculous assertion yet it's now used by the Libertarian types as an actual position.

We have to keep her in the news. Didn't you know AOC is actually a Republican plant... our very own Manchurian Candidate? We snuck her into Congress to disrupt the Democrats and make them look bad. And she’s doing a wonderful job, she causes Nancy Pelosi more headaches than she does the Republicans. And just look at her most recent success… She forced Pelosi to rush the impeachment that blew up in the democrats faces. Just wait to see what is in store next month! ;):)

Again you failed to answer the question. I just want a genuine answer without the sarcastic response.

Why the obsession with her, from an outsiders point of view its like she makes Fox and Republicans feel threatened.

She seems like a geniune person who actually cares and is not someone there to just feather their nest with corporate money like many dems and republicans in congress and the senate. To be honest America would be better represented by more people like her who cant be bought

Henry Ford went bankrupt before bouncing back. As did Walt Disney, HJ Heinz, Larry King, William Durant, Francis Ford Copolla, PT Barnum, Mick Fleetwood, Stan Lee, Abe Lincoln.

    Also, The Donald.

Only one of those bankrupt a casino though.

I see you don't get humor. We like to keep her in the news because her power represents the stupidity of what the future of the democrat party is becoming, and it's always good politically to put their foolishness on display.

Bankrupting a casino isn't a good look but you would want to see some stats to demonstrate whether it's more common than you think or it takes something special to achieve and not in a good way

  • Registered Users Posts: 803 ✭✭✭woohoo!!!

AOC is intelligent, her left style policies are of course far out for the US. She's young and politically naive for sure, just like everyone starting out.

It's a bit rich to say she's thick considering the constant reminders with Trump and his almost daily gaffes.

I believe the majority of those business bankruptcies of Trump had to do with Atlantic City. Atlantic City had the eastern half of the US casino market until Native Americans were allowed to start opening up casinos and then other states started opening up casinos. Once that started happening the entire casino, entertainment and hotel market in Atlantic City went down the crapper. Any person with half a brain could see those circumstances were outside of Trump's control.

I suppose when you compare her to a Sloth.

This is hilarious. I don't have any verified documentation that gravity exists. So it is 50/50 at best.

So you would be happy enough if your 2 young daughters received the same level of vitriol in their political careers?

Would it just be bantz if they were called stupid and had creepy photos published of them mocking them?

That would be fair game right?

Watch out, there are a few brain dead snitches on this thread...……….

The very worst kind, with not backbone, just like the Democrats.

If something abstract is claimed without verification then of course I'd ask for verification.
Also you've commented using a different username.

Mic drop, yes that's proof of gravity

Ha ha not silly sarcistic humour like that no

As I said America would be better off with people like her, as she cant be bought by PACs trying to influence and wants to geniunely improve the country.

The irony is not lost when you call her stupid considering the daily stupid things Trump says

Sure, there must have been a few casinos going under during that time period then. I think Trump is cunning at some things and woefully ignorant or naive at others, it's his first time as a politician. He makes up for it by connecting with his base and by force of personality and insistence on personal loyalty, bends others to his will.

I'd be careful what you wish for if that's your goal, that is exactly how trump got elected in 2016.

My oldest daughter is a politician. (The other will be in the future and she's smart and a fighter you wouldn't want to tangle with). And like AOC the oldest is a rising political star, albeit on a local/county level at the moment. You wouldn’t believe the vitriol she receives, even there. It goes with the territory. I’m proud she rises above it and continues to do the best she can for her constituents. She recently was involved in bringing not one, but two hospitals to her city, that are currently under construction. Her efforts haven’t gone unnoticed and the GOP is trying to convince her to run for County Commissioner. They feel it is the proper step to achieve a position in the state Congress, and then eventually US Congress. I know the vitriol she will receive will only intensify as she rises. But I also know she will handle it with grace, and without looking stupid in the process.

In full disclosure I must admit my youngest (attending the most politically active university in Washington, DC) is trying to intern for AOC. Where have I failed?

I asked you a simple question, I didn't ask for a reference, I'll try again.

So if rival politicians or commentators were to mock either of you daughters with creepy stalker photos or just down right insults on a world level.

You'd be fine with, it's just a bit of banter?

    Fair game, right?

So she would be proud of her father abusing and calling AOC stupid etc?
