Can I apply as an external candidate if I don't actually go to school?

I did my Leaving Cert in June and I got around 200 points. I hated the place so I didn't study and just walked out 30 mins into each exam.

This year I want to work part-time and study at home and sit the Leaving Cert again in 2020. Is this possible or do I need to go to some sort of school to apply?

Yes you can be an external student and not attend school.
If you are sitting any subjects with project or portfolio elements (e.g. History or Geography) you may need to make contact with a school, so that a teacher can attest the project is your own work.

The details on this page are for this year's exams, but will be much the same for 2020. You should apply in January.

Why are you repeating your leaving?
200 points is plenty to progress to a plc or college course in an area that interests you instead of repeating a hodgepodge of 6 or 7 mostly irrelevant subjects.
