Some good points, but isn't our current ideology rather utopic also?

To a degree, but I think the majority of elected politicians in this country know there are limitations on what they can achieve when in power, and do the best they can.

Murphy and his ilk want it all, and slag off the ones in power for not providing it all.

Anytime you hear them getting interviewed, its always "the Gov this and the Gov that....", picking holes in everything they do. That's an easy game when you aren't in power. SF are guilty of it too.

I have little time for him. He seems dishonest. For some reason I can't trust him. And its not his politics.

Our political systems aren't open to far left thinking, there's very little hope of this thinking getting directly involved in governance, and not only in this country, but in saying that, it's gonna be interesting to see what happens in the UK. There is a place for it though, and it's important to realise the involvement far left politics played in matters such as Irish water, it ultimately plays an influencing role

Is it the cold and emotionless eyes coupled with that sneer?

No more like junkets to turkey ...dodgy campaign tactics and getting his solicitors on rte everytime they say something he doesnt want people to know but is already in the public domain. He basically threatened RTE for only reporting on candidates over 10% in the polls leaving him out.

Getting teens involved in a protest that went wrong largely to him pushing it too far and in fairness very dodgy policing.

    He has a big ego.

He takes fashionable positions and abandons unpopular ones.

This latest movement will be the one though. I think they sincerely believe that. Anyway, I'm sure it'll all be explained in a public meeting of eight people in a room in Wynn's Hotel or somewhere. That's how these things usually work anyway.

Looks like I was completely wrong.

Your mistake was to think that Paul Murphy would leave the affluent Southside for a meeting in Wynn's hotel.

While his constituency is on the southside, it's hardly 'affluent'.

It is really. Lovely area most of it. Terenure college etc.
    "In the county of South Dublin the electoral divisions of: Ballinascorney, Ballyboden, Bohernabreena, Edmondstown, Firhouse-Ballycullen, Firhouse-Knocklyon, Firhouse Village, Rathfarnham-Ballyroan, Rathfarnham-Butterfield, Rathfarnham-Hermitage, Rathfarnham-St. Enda’s, Rathfarnham Village, Tallaght-Avonbeg, Tallaght-Belgard, Tallaght-Fettercairn, Tallaght-Glenview, Tallaght-Jobstown, Tallaght-Killinardan, Tallaght-Kiltipper, Tallaght-Kingswood, Tallaght-Millbrook, Tallaght-Oldbawn, Tallaght-Springfield, Tallaght-Tymon, Templeogue-Cypress, Templeogue-Limekiln, Templeogue-Orwell, Templeogue-Osprey, Templeogue Village, Terenure-St. James; and those parts of the electoral divisions of Clondalkin-Ballymount and Tallaght-Kilnamanagh situated west of a line drawn along the M50 Western Parkway.

He owned an apartment in ballinteer then sold it to move to tallaght ....

Strangely he seems to think the only neighborhood in his constituency is tallaght. And i can guarantee you the people of tallaght are not the ones who elected him.

Imagine being Paul Murphys age and believing in socialism.

This is my favourite comment ever

Far more time that it merits. RTE always gives the far left excessive coverage.

I wasn't suggesting that it's not a nice area. Just that it's not 'affluent'. There are plenty of perfectly valid criticisms of Paul Murphy, but his 'class' isn't one of them.

If Murphy hasn't yet chosen for his new group, could I make a suggestion:
    The Anti Prosperity Alliance.

They could never be that honest and upfront about their motives, would break with tradition

Henceforth it will be known as the Lettuce & Rice Party.

(At least it sounds environmentally friendly).

Not a hint of a detailed manifesto on the website, but a detailed blurb about Paul Murphy written by Paul Murphy.

Demands include free internet, a free house, a free abortion, a 4 day working week, nationalise all multinationals, no water charges, no property tax. All sounds extremely grounded in reality.

He's become an Environmentalist now. Here's something he could recycle.

(I don't think he fully researched the name).
