Blaming Ireland for not being prepared / up for it / whinging / not just good enough is completely ignoring the fact the referee has been a disgrace.
from bests "knock on" that was cleary backwards to Carthy been taken out in the air.
Completely ignoring penalties from Japan - that last one was beyond a joke - Ireland attacking, murray trying to get the ball ? ? ??

Ireland were pinged at will. VDF being held and penalty given.
Its impossible to get any momentum when your are been cheated -plain and simple.

No checking of a swnging arm on Kearney? ? Why not?

I'll watch it back but sweet Jesus - they are all blatently obvious - ref couldn't have not seen it, VDF one aside.

Turning point was that lost line out on their line after about 50 mins. Went backwards from there.

    Shocking. Absolutely shocking.

Selection and tactics all wrong. Carty was terrible. Bench offered nothing.

Carty was involved in the only goods bit of play we had. Carberry looked nice where near fit enough when he came on.

A smart decision honestly. We were only going to lose a point. There was zero chance of us scoring a try.

Embarrassing to not try chase the game at the end. All blacks would push for the draw

Scotland could well beat Japan leaving us likely to top the group, definitely right to take the bonus point

An absolute humbling. We can complain about Gardner but we were ****. Played right into the Japanese hands with our poor kicking and bad decision. I'd be so happy for Japan was I not absolutely ****ing gutted.

    Well done Japan

That kick out after the gong typified the game for Ireland, poor decision making, just not up to the usual standard

Take 1 point now or massively roll the dice to try get 2 points.

Take the 1 and hope Scotland play better against them...

Kicking out after the gong for the BP was the best decision made in the 2nd half.

And Ireland have had no concept of the offside line or the practice of supporting your own body weight.

We’ve been getting away with dark arts for years and Gardner has caught us. We’ve had no answer to it and we can’t have any complaints. It was an awful performance

It was an awful performance and I will agree that he did ping us but he didnt ping them and thats the issue.

You can't possibly claim that he applied the rules accurately to both teams today

Disgraceful... well done to Japan but out played by japan is ridiculous. The players taught all they had to do was show up.

Earls saving the LBP could be huge for getting out of the group

Not really. Would be better just to go out at group stage. NZ will embarrass us

Sexton is going to be flogged now I think.

Zero control from Carbery or Carty on display. They're the future after Sexton goes, but right now they aren't going to bring us to a World Cup semi final.

Your nuts if you think a 10 could win that, game lost in the forwards

Poor performance by Ireland but serious questions have to be asked of Agnus Gardener. 80 minutes of absolutely baffling decisions. I suspect he just secured his place in the World Cup Final.

    Negatives: Too many

Positives: We didn't concede a bonus point.

Air of arrogance about this team dating back to the first game of the Six Nations against England - from the media to the fans to the players.

You'd think after that humbling Six Nations that some lessons could have been learned about that sort of thing, but a few friendly wins over a Wales side trying out things and a victory over Scotland and we were back!

    Guess not.

The fact that I believe that Carvery did the right thing by playing safe and kicking the ball out really says it all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

Fully deserved win. Poor decision making and poor attempts to score versus a brilliant Japan game plan. Two incidents stand out, the Best overthrow and the turnover off the base of a ruck sums it up for me. NZ or bust now?

Hilarious people here calling for heads on the Irish squad. The ref hardly let a call go our way. The Japanese must've been born offside and the ref never called it.

The usual ecstasy after beating an ordinary Scottish side.
We were well beaten today by a team we were going to steam roll.

To top it off we kick the ball into touch after the 80 minutes are up.
Not that it would have made a difference.

Japan played the exact way we knew they would. Joe can shove it up his ass at this stage

Poor display from the ref but we should be capable of beating Japan even with all decisions going their way.
Fairly messed up team at the end to be fair, where did McGrath end up playing?

Also there should be some sort of IQ test required to be able to post in these threads, some amount of bellends posting that ruin these threads everytime.

    * Insert image of me with egg all over face here.

Carty's disrespectful kick early on set the tone.

Chuffed for Japan. Will go for a sushi brunch on Capel Street to cheer myself up.

Referee was very poor at awarding us penalties but at the end of the day you don't give away stupid penalties. We made so many errors.

Well done Japan. Really absorbing game to watch.

They were so good with the ball in hand - lightning quick. Ireland in comparison were so slow and ponderous. Are we even capable of putting the ball through hands like that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,066 ✭✭✭Christy42

The elephant in the room just grows bigger when the panel completely ignore the refs performance. Whether they thought it was good, bad or indifferent it had to be addressed.

Ireland once again playing down to "lower" opposition.

From what i saw there didn't seem to to be any game plan whatsoever?

    Positive to take from this.

A monumental kick up the ar$e for the team/squad to take for the remainder of the tournament

Absolute shower Ireland. No fitness no shape no leadership. Same old story. I'd honestly pack up now. New Zealand will murder us (if we qualify). Haven't scored since the 20th minute.
They were fit but very humid and Japanese plan is to run teams to death. It's the lack of scores from the 20th minute that was the huge problem.

Fair play to ya taking great joy in your countrymen losing, off and support Liverpool there in the English league.

People will troll and whatever, but I will never understand an Irish person actively enjoying watching a team of Irish lads lose. That mindset is honestly baffling to me

We were poor but the moment Gardner stood there and looked at their 7 being offside, told him as much and didn't award an advantage you knew he was reffing the teams differently. That would've set it up a penalty and Ireland to get possession back.

Instead they got 2 penalties when Gardner was nowhere near the play, no warnings just penalties.

It was a garbage performance. They got away with a clear red last week and then there was no citing, and now that display.

Maybe they're not aware of it, but they're being reffed differently and being held to a lesser standard
