    Windows 10 x64

I have used USB 3.0 memory sticks quite a bit.

    They are usually very fast.

I'm using some new sticks this morning (64Gb) and the speed is much slower than usual. It taking 20 minutes plus to fill the stick.

    Is this accepatable?

If not, what might be wrong?

    The stick are brand new.

    Thanks.

    D.

This tool, https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/H2testw.shtml will test the stick for reliable capacity as well as speed. It will overwrite the entire stick to test it. Hope you haven't deleted the originals!

The sticks are SanDisk, bought in Argos, where I usually buy.

I’m getting about 25/30 Kbps. Sound right?

Maybe it’s the large volume of files I’m transferring that’s throwing me.

    Thanks for the replies.

Are the usb ports set to a lower speed in the BIOS/UEFI?

Does tge laptop support USB 3 on those ports?

    Isn't it measured in MB/s or KB/s
Unless you transferring over network/internet and looking at network graph.

If its 20-30MB/s, that's about normal for USB3 in USB2 port

If Argos can sell branded stuff for lower price, there is reason for it, and is not necessary charity or good will.

Just being Sandisk doesn't make them good. USB3 sticks come with all sorts of write speeds, some can be 3x as fast as others. Same is true of USB2.0 drives. Also consider if you are using an actual USB3.0 port as well.

    Thanks for the replies.

The computer has two x USB 3.0 and two x USB 2.0 at the front.

I'm definitely using the 3.0 ports.

It's probably just the size of the transfer (from my computer's 7200 rpm drive) that's throwing me.

    Thanks again.
