    Jesse Owens

And he’s through to the semi’s!

IMO the weakest of the quarter finals

Bolt breaks the 200m record at the world championship

    V

Zidanes wonder goal in the 2002 CL final

    Bolt for me

    Bolt for me as well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

Bolt for me too. As much as I loved that Zidane goal I think he has gone far enough and it's time for Bolt to take his place in the semi finals.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,343 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Has to be Bolt. Nothing weak about that performance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,444 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

    Bolt for me

    Zidane. Obscene execution.

ZZ, purely because I think Bolt is more synonymous with 100m

That and the volley being fecking perfection

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,027 ✭✭✭duffman13

Bolt but his 100m is better than both

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

    And Bolt goes through 6-2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

I’m going to post the last two quarters and we’ll run off the semis and final tomorrow

The three Irish entries will be down to two after this

Dennis Taylor wins the 1985 World Championship on the black

    V

Katie Taylor's gold medal at London 2012

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

    Lastly two huge soccer moments

Leicester upset all the odds and win the premier league

    V

    Packie Bonner & Dave O'Leary

Katie and Italia 90 for me

    Denis and Packie please.

For very personal reasons, Dennis Taylor and Packie

Dennis Taylor just brings back such a happy memory of being allowed to stay up, my mum loving it, me getting really excited

And I'm distantly related to Packie. When he saved that I tried to somersault off the sofa. I failed :p

Katie Taylor. I think we're very close to this currently but it's often overlooked just what she has done for womens boxing in general.

And Leicester. Sorry Packie, but the Leicester story just cant be denied imo.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,343 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Katie Taylor. Probably the biggest name in women's boxing and she's inspired the likes of Kellie Harrington to follow in her footsteps.

Italia 90. The Leicester story is incredible, but that penalty shootout is possibly the most iconic moment in Irish sport, certainly in Irish soccer.

Dennis Taylor, such a well balanced final to go all the way to a last shot possible ( excluding a foul )

Leicester The dream of the underdog actually winning, comes true

    Agree with these.

Best Snooker final of all time, gripped everyone. Dennis Taylor

Take the green glasses of and what have you got? A 0-0 draw and a mediocre team beating a mediocre team on pens. If we're going on best sporting moments from a sporting POV, It's Leicester's PL win.

Katie Taylor and Packie for me. Snooker and Leicester have gone far enough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

    Packie leads 5-3
    Katie & Dennis tied 4-4

    Packie
    Dennis

Met Packie once, the expression of never meet your heroes was made for him but what a moment.

Katie was Brilliant but Dennis is probably the most infamous game, frame, black ball in snooker

Dennis and Packie, just cause its two class moments

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

Packie and Katie for me. Wouldn't be against either losing but they're the two I'd go for as the better moments.

Packie goes through along with Dennis Taylor in probably the most contested tie to date

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

And we are onto the semi-finals, I'll make this first to 8 and post both together

    Semi-final 1 - sees the two athletics come head-to-head

Usain Bolt breaks his own world record at the 2009 World Championships, a record which still stands

    V

Jesse Owens wins four gold medals at the Berlin Olympics. Did you know that since he set the world record for the long jump it has been held by just three other people, Ralph Boston, Bob Beamon and and the current holder Mike Powell.

Jessie been hanging around for this now I can go about my day

So Packie saving a peno was a bigger sporting moment than Ali Koing Foreman?

    Or Maradonas goal against England?

    Right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,896 ✭✭✭✭Spook_ie

Flippin tough choice with this one

Owen's never to be repeated because of the world situation then?
Bolt's How much faster can a man go unaided?

Going to give it to Owen's.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,319 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    Owens for me anyways

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

    Semi-final 2 - Battle of the Irish

Dennis Taylor's World Champonship win in 1985, one of only two ranked events Taylor ever won

    V

    Packie Bonner and Co.

So should we just not bother having a vote? Just take ur opinion?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

Packie and Owens for me. If it was Bolts 100m record I'd probably have voted for it but it lost out to Leicester City

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,896 ✭✭✭✭Spook_ie

    Semi Final 2

Taylor How many matches can you remember going to the last ball of the last frame?
Packie Bonner, Yeah great but Ireland have been involved in other penalty shoot outs since

    Sticking with Taylor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,337 ✭✭✭jasonb

    Owens and Taylor for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,580 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    Jesse Owens
    - I'd vote for Bolt's 100m over it, I think, but the 200m isn't so iconic

    Packie
    - family vote again :p

    Jesse Owen's.
Significant because of location and society at the time while still being impressive in a sporting context

    Packie.
Purely because of numbers watching and the sheer elation expressed at that moment.
