FWIW this is the squad that Thornley thinks will be named.

IRELAND (possible Six Nations squad) –
Hookers: Niall Scannell, Rob Herring, Ronan Kelleher.
Props: Cian Healy, David Kilcoyne, Tadhg Furlong, Andrew Porter, Marty Moore.
Locks: James Ryan, Iain Henderson, Devin Toner, Jean Kleyn, Ultan Dillane.
Backrows: Rhys Ruddock, Peter O’Mahony, Josh van der Flier, CJ Stander, Max Deegan, Caelan Doris, Will Connors.

Scrumhalves: Conor Murray, Luke McGrath, John Cooney.
Outhalves: Johnny Sexton (capt), Ross Byrne, Billy Burns.
Centres: Bundee Aki, Robbie Henshaw, Garry Ringrose, Stuart McCloskey, Chris Farrell.
Outside backs: Andrew Conway, Keith Earls, Jacob Stockdale, Jordan Larmour, Dave Kearney, Will Addison

Jean Kleyn has gone for a neck scan so he might end up unavailable.
Otherwise there's very little to glean from it.

Wonder who'll replace Kleyn? Roux is out with a hand injury, Beirne is out with his ankle. Alan O'Connor or Molony?

Isn’t this generally just for first two games? Might not replace him

Is Reidy eligible? I would have thought he'd have done enough to get in.

    Yes, he's already been capped.

Usually yeah but if there's a chance that Kleyn won't be back for the latter stages of the tournament and the only other options are uncapped players it'd probably be worth while having them in camp from an earlier stage

It's a shame that it looks like Rob Kearney, barring an injury crisis, won't pick up another cap and won't get a proper send off.

    What are you after?

Rumour has it Joe Schmidt passed down his watch to Andy Farrell as he was walking out the door......

Kleyn as captain is a strange call

interesting that Lancaster thinks Farrell's Ireland will be closer in style to Leinster than Schmidt's was.

*Context of the question was the difficulty bringing internationals back into the Leinster system after the 6N, he reckons it'll be easier this year.

Had read that Ultan Dillane is being checked for rib injury at the weekend also, so small doubt there perhaps.

    No Niall Scannell?

    Where's Ruddock?

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,684 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

Delighted to see the concept of official development players brought in. I know Joe used to call lads up into the training squads etc but it's an excellent idea and will probably give lads that extra boost.

Also fair play to Dave Heffernan, well deserved, he's been playing superb this season.

That's what jumped out to me along with Ruddock (which is a huge surprise to me). Herring, Heffernan and Kelleher are the three hookers.

    No McCloskey also.

O'Donoghue deserves a call up imo, he's looked excellent for Munster. But shocked Ruddock is not in the squad. Most people would have had him starting at 6.

Wonder is Stander seen as a 6 in this squad, with Deegan and Doris as No. 8's

    GWAN Jack O’Donoghue

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,169 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Niall Scannell not in the squad at all? I don't think he's a test standard player, but other than Cronin, who's also not in the squad, he's the most experienced hooker we have. Three novices in the squad now. Huge chance for any of them to bail down the Irish starting jersey.

If Ruddock isn't injured his lack of inclusion is baffling. Especially in light of PoM's continued selection.

    It doesn't, sadly.

On the bright side, Healy should.

Gone from the RWC squad: Best, Cronin, Scannell, John Ryan, Jordi Murphy, Ruddock, Carty, Kearney.

    Injured: Beirne, Kleyn, Conan, Carbery.

interesting selection with the development players, Cullen has name dropped Baird a few times earlier in the season but then has only used him sparingly for Leinster.

Which means no Sean Cronin either. Three hookers named have 8 caps between them.

I'd be hard pushed to say who will get the nod, but I think I'd go for Kelleher. With Healy and Furlong either side of him, he'd be surrounded by plenty of experience.
