Loan Shark Needed - URGENT Ex gambled all my money

    Hi,

Would anybody know any instant cash loans or loan sharks in Dublin? I have tried provident, umbrella and R&P and all have refused me due to living in an apartment even though it's a ground floor with a front door and on the street.

My emergency is that I moved into this apartment last week and I had €2000 to give the landlord as a deposit, well I went to give it to her and it has gone, my now ex boyfriend gambled it all and has vanished so I am desperate and completely screwed. It was money I got from my dad which is even worse and I can't pay my deposit and she will be evicting me soon.

Please if anyone knows any that would be great! I sold my car and got an advance so I gave her €1000 yesterday, I just need another €1000.

    Any help is appreciated!

How are you going to pay for next months rent???

Should be getting law involved if he stole all that money.

You moved in before you paid a deposit? 🤥

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Sammyy24

I reported him to the guards but they said because he had access to my bank card that it's a civil dispute, he withdrew the €2000 must have gambled it all while I was in work and then text me to say sorry, he has a problem and that he is no good for me and then he just vanished.

The full amount was originally €2500, I gave the landlord €500, and was due to give her the rest on the 8th, the day he stole from me. I managed to get a weeks advance on my wages and some money from my ex's mother but still need the rest.

I get paid weekly so my rent won't be due until the 8th of November, so I should be fine then.

I have my car up for sale too, it's only an old golf but hoping it'll sell. In such a bad place right now, any loan shark recommendations would be great

If this is a serious question, hit up every friend you have before even thinking of going to an illegal money lender.

They are called sharks for a reason so be careful. Sorry I don't know any.

Lean on yer ex's Mum as hard as you can, after that it's a case of getting your mates to pull you out of a hole.

Only bit of advice I have is that yer not beaten till yer beaten. Chin up and fight on.

I have contacted everyone I know, even my coworker which was mortifying, not one single person will help.

I have one friend who is quite wealthy which is no excuse I know, I asked for her help and she has basically ghosted me

This being AH I'd normally wade in with some sort of joke.

Not this time, don't use a loan shark. You are just digging yourself into a bigger hole.
Call in every favour you can from family and friends.

I'd take my chances skinny dipping with an actual great white shark before I'd darken the doorstep of a loan shark. They are not a solution to your problem!

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Sammyy24

Thanks, that means alot. I tried, she won't help any more though. I have contacted his uncle for help, I'm keeping my fingers crossed but I doubt he will.

Not sure what I am going to do, if she evicts me, she will keep the money I already gave her and I'll have to sleep in my car.

    Credit Union?

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Sammyy24

    Thank you.

I can't ask family as it was my dad and brother who helped me with the loan to begin with, it's their money that has been stolen and they needed it back by November, every friend I have asked has said no

A loan shark will only multiply your problems tenfold (and maybe more).

Try the Vincent de Paul, maybe? I have absolutely no idea if they'd engage with your situation, but worth asking.

Otherwise, appeal to the landlord's better nature, in that it's just the deposit and you'll be able to pay the rent guaranteed (assuming you will actually be able to pay the rent guaranteed).

I went to them on Friday, they said I had to save with them for 6 weeks before they would entertain an application, I also tried my bank but they have refused me

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Sammyy24

I tried St Vincent De Paul, the lady I spoke to was actually awful to me and refused to help. I set up a go fund me but the internet being the internet, all I have gotten is death threats, gotta love facebook

Could you get an advance from work, explain your situation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,795 ✭✭✭taytobreath

U could tell the landlord and maybe u 2 could come to some sort of arrangement. Maybe pay an extra 50 euro a week in rent till the deposit is paid. Surely a landlord would have some sort of empathy towards your plight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,709 ✭✭✭Feisar

Is the landlord an agency or a person?

Possibly attempt imploring to their nice side? Explain the situation and explain how you intend to pay them.

    Edit - beaten to it.

I even tried a women's abuse shelter and they can't help, apparently gambling addiction/financial abuse isn't deemed serious enough.

I'm afraid to tell my landlord in case she evicts me sooner or puts a time limit on it, as we both signed the lease and now he's gone

As a dad, you need to talk to your dad. Even if he doesn't have the money, he may have the access to credit that you don't. There's no way he'd rather you going to a loan shark.

My boss gave me a €500 advance, but he can't give me anymore, I get paid weekly so it was this weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,795 ✭✭✭taytobreath

You could also try the social welfare.

If you could get your current situation sorted somehow, can you actually afford the rent on your own on an ongoing basis?

Was he meant to be contributing to the rent?

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Sammyy24

I was told that they wouldn't be able to help me as I am employed, it was a coworker who told me that though.

Do you not need to be signed on to avail of their help?

Go back to the Guard's it theft pure and simple make a complanint and get a pulse number, go to the social welfare comunity social worker.

Why did you sign a lease with boyfriend when he didn’t have half the deposit?
    Doesn’t add up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,795 ✭✭✭taytobreath

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Sammyy24

Yes, once I get sorted for this, I can afford the rent, it'll be a struggle but I have no choice. He was meant to be paying for half yes

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Sammyy24

He had a gambling problem so anytime he got some money, he gambled it away, he did get it under control for a good while though and things were looking up, he started saving for the deposit then the week of he told me he gambled his savings, I was upset but I had the money from my family so thought we would be fine, then he gambled mine

You seem to be desperate and frantic and are destined to make worse decisions in this state.

Ask your dad to move back in with him.
Lose the half deposit paid - take the hit.
Close the account your ex had access to.
    Pay your Dad back.
Have a serious word with yourself.

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Sammyy24

They have made a note of it but the guy I was dealing with said not to get my hopes up as I basically gave him permission to use my bank account, I have made a statement though

If only things were that simple, I would lose my job if I moved home, my dad lives in the middle of nowhere in Roscommon, 40 minutes from the nearest town, I need my job to pay everyone back. If it means sleeping in my car I'll do it as long as they are paid back, a loan shark or doorstep loan would have just taken the pressure off a bit

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Sammyy24

I couldn't do that to him, he is battling an illness himself so has maxed out pretty much everything he owns and is going through an awful divorce with my birth giver who is taking him for everything he has.

I can't put this stress on him which is why I wanted to find a cash loan to get him paid back :/

    Thank you though

    It really, really wouldn't.

Put all thoughts of those out of your head, and keep being creative.

Appealing to the landlord sounds like your best bet. The fact that s/he allowed you to move in on a partial deposit at all suggests that they're not a vindictive automaton and might actually be inclined to help.

You'd want to ensure it doesn't just sound like a scam though.

First time i have genuinely felt sorry for someone on here Sammy.

    Hope you get it sorted.

My advice would be upfront and honest with the landlord. People are generally nice and i'm sure she will be empathetic to your situation. Tell her it'll be paid back in the next two months

Surely you could get any sort of a job close to home?

I would have my dad and brother paid back so much quicker though with the job I have, as I get paid back weekly it would only take 3ish weeks, at least they would be okay, I don't care too much about what happens to me but I can't let my stupidity impact their lives

At the same time, the optics of what has happened may spook your landlord.

Is it possible to try to pull out of the let, get the money back paid to date and move into the family home or with a friend temporarily?

Don't those payday lenders still exist, Wonga?
Now, with the interest they charge, they are no better than a money lender.

Asking your bank manager for a short term overdraft or maxing out your credit card aren't options I assume?

I doubt very much that the Community Welfare Officer (part of Social Welfare) can help you out. And even if s/he could, you'd have to call into the public office and wait for hours which you may not be able to do.

    Thanks Stevieluvsye.

I am going to speak with her in the next hour and see what happens, I really hope she will be okay with it, technically she has €250 and the first month's rent, I'll plead and see what happens. If i'm in my car I'm in my car, all I care about is getting my family paid back

Best of luck. You were dealt a bad hand with your Ex but you'll more than likely find your LL will be understandable about the situation. I know i would be anyway

My family home is 2 and a half hours away and tbh I don't really have any friends and the odd one or two I have live in Waterford and Cork. I did ask a few coworkers but they said no.

I have gone over the lease but it states if I leave without giving 30 days notice they will keep the deposit

They refused, stupidly, when his gambling was bad and he used all his money, he would use my bank account so you could see the gambling transactions so the bank won't help at all, yeah I work 9-5 so after getting an advance, there's no way my boss would let me leave

Please change your pin and bank account access details so he can't get anymore from you. Really hope you can get sorted, best of luck op.

I know it depends on the repayment time, but if one borrows 1k from a loan shark, how much are you expected to pay back ?
    2k ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Sammyy24

I looked into Wonga but I don't think they are active anymore, Amigo loans need a guarantor and my one friend I asked refused

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,825 ✭✭✭Doctors room ghost

In the first post you sold your car and further down the thread you say you are putting your car for sale.

A tall tale for a wet day I reckon.

This is what I was quoted from Amigo:

Borrowing €1,000 over 36 months, repaying €48.79 per month, total repayable €1,756.44. Interest rate 49.9% (fixed).

I wish, unfortunately I am one of these stupid women who buys things for her partner, I bought him a car last year and sold it when this happened, it was in my name, it was only a crappy Peugeot. I still have my golf
