Wright has the power scoring to match MVG if both are on song but obviously the doubles is where it matters and Wright missed 30 odd tonight ( still doing well to have a 99 average with that being said) didn't see the entire game there so not sure how MVG was in the doubles.

Bit of an interesting end to both games with both winners being deflated with their performances despite winning, bookies have MVG at 1/3 with Wright at 9/4

    Looks bloody tasty that

    MvG was 21/52 on doubles.

Especially when Wright was by far the best player of the 4 tonight.

If MVG goes through the gears it could be 7-2/7-3 but Wright has been the best player since the last 16. The win tonight was surely a huge one no matter how badly Price played.

It's a case of now or never for Snakebite.

Aye, that's very respectable percentages over the course of nine sets. Michael still not the player he was years previous. Has to be there for the taking if Wright can play at a similar level and Van Gerwen doesn't up his game.

It was brilliant to see Price get hammered, cannot stand him, he was pathetic tonight just like his celebrations and his sportsmanship.

Dissapointing event , really miss having taylor / anderson and few of the older gaurd at the business end of things , the newer guys just dont have experience right now, but this will change.
Average age has dropped alot and its turning into a young mans game.
Mvg could win this without breaking a sweat.
Much like taylor could win so easily in early 2000s

Another slight rise in the 180 rate after the QF's, but as conceded many days ago, the the middle few days were not kind. A lot more sets but not the same rate of 180's.

Down 18 on last year (based on the 835 vs 852 at the same point in the competition).

As it currently stands; with the 180 rate at 1.8689 180's per set played:

If all matches from here end up 3-0 legs and X - 0 Sets we have:
7 sets left; returning a tournament total of 452 Sets and 848 180's.

If all matches from here end up 3-2 legs and go the distance (excluding tie-breaks) we have:
13 sets left; returning a tournament total of 458 Sets and 859 180's.

Mid point of the extremes has us at:
10 sets left; returning a tournament total of 455 Sets and 854 180's.

Sportingindex: middling the market at 861 (Sell 860; Buy 862).

Need 11 to break even at 846, fingers crossed.

Will cheer on the nearly-man Peter Wright.

    Happy New Year to All.

I'd be interested to see how many 177s etc are doing cause as a casual viewer cover shooting seems be on the up? Hence a drop in 180s perhaps?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,760 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Wright is the Jimmy White to MvG's Stephen Hendry

Wright is the fan favourite, "people's champion" if you will, that can't get over the line and win the big one despite his obvious talent

MvG is the generational talent that wins everything and while the fans appreciate how good he is they also like to see him lose every now and then

After first set which Wright won, he reminded Price, that Price said he’d win the first 2 sets.

Celebrations all part of it atm

Refereeing needs to be tightened up in darts to clamp down on all the nonsense, atm they're just keeping score

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,461 ✭✭✭Bob Harris

Price should have taken Wright's comment for the light hearted jibe it was, said 'yeah you got me Krusty' and gotten on with his game. Letting something so silly get to him not only ruined his own game but helped Wright's.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,685 ✭✭✭✭klose

It's clearly nonsense from price and I can't imagine he's expecting many to believe his guff, any other half decent person would have thanked his fans and apologised for the way he behaved but couldn't even do that. Needless to say he won't be getting the crowd anymore on his side for the foreseeable future.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,495 ✭✭✭Will I Am Not

Don’t get the hate for Price myself. Arrogant? Yes. Over exuberant celebrations? Yes. So what?
No different to the celebrations of MvG or Aspinall among others. He comes across as a sound lad in interviews.

Think I’ll take that back now :pac:

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,563 ✭✭✭✭peteeeed

Especially when Wright said price was winding him up backstage on the practise boards and that's why he was telling him, I won the first set

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭US2

Price quickly losing whatever respect he gained lately. The boos will be back for the premier league

It all adds to the interest the needle and the celebrations

If they take it away they'll lose viewers

I’ve no complaints about Price acting the maggot on stage in general, although he overstepped the mark last night, but if he can’t take it he shouldn’t be dishing it out.
Pretty pathetic to come out whinging that Wright’s antics got to him.

What else would you expect from Price, he's the Gavin Henson of darts.

Surely it'll have to come together for Wright some time. MvG just has not convinced me this tournament (by his standards of course). He still has his odd unplayable phase in each match but they are few and far between this event. An average player in labanauskas and subpar Aspinall missed a few chances to make those games way more interesting than they should be. If someone walked in from Mars and assessed Wright and MvG this event with no pre-conceived bias or opinion then they'd have to make Wright the favourite.

Again yesterday MvG seemed to be having words with the ref early on, after throwing for double 12 in the middle of a leg the day before when he also appeared visibly surly in his interview. As has been alluded to in this thread, I wonder is he just getting a bit fed up with the whole thing. Darts as a job must get a bit tedious after a while to continue to put in the effort needed to stay at the top. The game has no real element of evolution involved or tactics one can change up to freshen their approach. Its just throw at treble 20/19 rinse and repeat until you get to the double.

I know he had his injuries and he looks dangerously unhealthy but its probably what has happened to Adrian Lewis in a sense.

Saying all that, MvG will probably do enough tomorrow, finals in this event tend to be underwhelming and typically the favourite will win with a bit to spare, but he's been a tad fortunate this hasn't been a vintage event.

    Haha that's a weird comparison!

Henson is fairly harmless all things said, minus booze! There's definitely a nasty edge to Price though

True darts must be tedious for a pro to maintain the level

    Does mvg have health issues

Haha I know. But both Welsh, both rugby players, both seemingly obsessed with their appearance and either using tanning beds or fake tan and neither remotely likeable.

    Practically twins :-)

Lewis is unhealthy I mean - the size of him for a relatively young man!

MvG is no prime athlete either mind (but obviously not in the ha'penny place with Lewis)! When he started off he was as thin as a rail.

I tend to agree, MVG has just looked off by his standards in this tournament. Now obviously he's done enough to get to the final and fully deserves his spot, but he's been nowhere near his devastating best.

I think Wright is in with a great chance and at 9/4 is a great price for a flutter.

What's the story with MVG's health?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,238 ✭✭✭✭Diabhal Beag

Price is well able to dish out the big man behaviour but when he gets challenged he cracks. Same thing happened last year when the crowd got to him.

Him blaming Wright's behaviour for losing the match is such nonsense.

Everytime I watch Lewis I think he's moments away from a heart attack, he looks like he lives an extremely unhealthy lifestyle.

I'd put money on mvg odds on

    Wright is unwinnable imo
