I do not use a mobile myself .... no need ..... but have a relative in her 60s who would make some use of a mobile, but would not get value from €20 per month/28 day plans I have seen advertised.

She needs no data at all.
Just wants to make a few calls per week.
Probably use would be 50 to 100 minutes of phone time per month (being generous).

She has been gifted a mobile phone, so now what?

What is the cheapest option out there that might suit her?
Is there anything available for €10 per month?

I checked the ComReg site which seemed to say that Tesco mobile had a €10 option, but on the Tesco I only found €15 as the lowest (I might well have missed it).

Is there anything to suit her? This would do I reckon ........

See this for all the PAYG plan links...
    https://m.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=111334311&postcount=2

Gomo is a SIM only plan, ie a monthly bill.

The cheapest PAYG with plenty of minutes is
    Lyca talk & text
    450 mins
    450 text
    9 euro per month

You can top up by 15 in the first month and get unlimited calls (no text). Then buy the talk and text bundle for second month and thereafter manage the top ups to buy the bundles to get best value.
So 3 x 15 top ups totalling 45 euro would get 8 months use with at least 450 minutes each month.

If that's a bit awkward to manage then it's 9 euro per month, probably get a 10 euro top up and have 1 euro left over each month.

There is also a Vodafone add on of 100 minutes for 5 euro per 4 weeks.

Just looking at the GoMo allowances ......
Unlimited minutes and SMS allowances where applicable are subject to a fair usage allowance of 45,000 minutes and 10,000 SMS.

45k minutes per month? per year?

I doubt any month has 45k minutes in it!

    60x24x31 = 44,640 minutes in 31 day month

Else 45k per year => 3,750 minutes per month.

Alternatively I am reading this incorrectly!

Given the person involved, I reckon a single DD per month would be the way to go ..... but I will bring your suggestion to her also.

    Thank you.

It's a monthly bill so a monthly allowance. 45k and 10k texts per month is correct.

That is what I thought ..... but it seems there is no way to use up all the minutes in a month :D

    Lyca is now
    300 mins phone
    300 SMS
    €9

    So should suit my relative.
I strongly suspect she will plumb for Eir though :)

That's a separate plan that also includes 1GB data...
    https://www.lycamobile.ie/en/bundle/national-s/

The other one has no data...
    https://www.lycamobile.ie/en/bundle/talk-text-s/

Then there's another plan that includes 300 mins that can be used for international calls as well as national for 10euro...
    https://www.lycamobile.ie/en/bundle/europe-plus/

Is it a smartphone? Data could be used on 2 of those 3 plans.

    Fairly quick decision made apparently.
    GoMo is the winner here.

Reason: less hassle .... DD as opposed to buying and entering topups and trying to read some of those faded printouts.
Less hassle is worth the extra euro per month apparently.

Also she had never heard of Lyca but knew Eir so went with gomo.

In addition she found the Lyca website more confusing to negotiate and got turned off it.

She has the account set up now and just awaiting the SIM :D

No hanging about I tell ye!

NOTE: I did not investigate the Lyca offerings so the above is just what I have been told.

    Thanks for the assistance guys.
