New Flock

Hi
I am looking into getting a couple of sheep around the place, mostly to clean out paddocks or keep ragworth in place, 6 at the most.
How are sheep with 2 strands of electric fence or will they ignore it.
There was a small flock here years in my dad's time.

Been looking at jacob ewes mostly.
Any recommendations where to get some in the midwest.
Not much on Donedeal at present.

2 strands of wire will contain sheep, mostly
If they get hungry, they’ll get brave... I wouldn’t like to be depending on it at the bounds...

Don’t know anything about Jacob sheep am afraid.

If you only getting 6, then get quiet ones. I don’t know if Jacob are quiet or not.

6 is a small number, how big are your paddocks? And do you have two strands of wire up everywhere?

I use it too to divide up paddocks - usually don’t have problems, did the finest all year. But the sheep are jumping over it for sport lately...
It earthed for a day or so, and they got wise to it. But even now that’s its fixed and full shock back on, they still aren’t too bothered by it...

Will replace it with proper sheepwire sometime, as to be honest it’s a bit of a pain...

Paddocks are roughly 2 acres with 2 electric wire everywhere.
Boundary ditches are good also.
How good are sheep to clean out paddocks after suckler cows.
Kids want black and white sheep so I am looking for Jacob sheep if there are any bunch of ewes about.

Jacob sheep would be 1 off the quieter breeds but don't expect big prices for your lambs. They wouldn't be overly woolly either so 2 strands might keep them in. There very good mothers so if u see a lamb out you see the ewe out.
