Zero shots on target yet again for Solskjaer's United. Still, he's able to manage a smile at least.

    This BS again.
The FA Cup has been devalued because the value of getting into Europe is so high and because the value of the premier league is so high.

Top premier league teams concentrate on getting in Europe.

Middle and lower premier league teams concentrate on staying the premier league.

Top championship teams concentrate on getting into the premier league.

So of the top two tiers 32 of the teams would be concerned with something other than the FA Cup.

No amount of rescheduling, or gimmicks will return the FA Cup to it's original glory.

The only thing that could remotely save it is Brexit.

In a Brexit scenario teams will find it harder to attract top EU talent because of new labour restrictions.
That drop off could result is a devaluing of the premier league bubble, the league would lose its attractiveness, and as a result the money in it would be less.
Then teams might see a bit more value in the FA Cup.

On and Utd did not pull out in '99.
The FA asked them to play in the World Club Cup so that it might boost the FAs 2006 world cup bid.

you have all the answers - even blaming Brexit - United did pull out and the tournament has never recovered - other factors didnt help - forgot how sensitive United fans are to any criticism of ther precoius club

It's a mystery to me how this has become acceptable.

I can't see him being sacked either incredibly.

If you read the post I'm not blaming Brexit for anything, on the contrary, a consequence of Brexit may be an FA Cup recovery in some shape or form.

As for the Utd and precious fan stuff, I'm not a fan of Utd, so hard luck with that.

It will never be devalued by fans of clubs who never have a hope of winning anything else

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,912 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

The Wigan fans will always have the FA Cup no matter what league they are in beating Oil Rich Superstar Man City.

    Absolutely

    That’s what’s it’s all about

Some fans will never get that

I don't think to there is any question that fans, especially fans of lower league teams still enjoy the FA Cup and don't devalue the winning of it.

But it's more about how much the teams (management, owners etc) value it anymore.

Kudos to the ref for booking diving Dele. You could see he had run into a blind alley and was going to try to wangle a free

I'll be putting money on Spurs for the Fa cup. Jose will target the competition and play stronger teams than most of the other big teams to try win a trophy.

Ye pretty much the only PL team to play a full strength team. Did the same at Utd targeting the league cup to win a trophy and from memory something similar with Chelsea.

So happy for this lad. Drafted in for his debut and was astonishingly comfortable against Brighton. No media training or anything just a footballer enjoying his first game in the Cup against a Prem team. Video has gone viralish

Jose went with a very strong team too. He really wants a trophy this season and FA cup only realistic option

Everton gone to evens favourites after the lineups. Liverpool 5/2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,984 ✭✭✭ebbsy

United pulling out didn't make a bit of difference. The final used to be special because it was the only live club football you saw all year. Regular televised games, semi finals at wembley, changing around the kick-off times, and the champions league have all made the cup less important.

Great point. Especially the semis at Wembley.

    It's like Spurs playing there.

Only tuning in now to Pool game....who has been the better side?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,191 ✭✭✭✭Shanotheslayer

If Liverpool scored from that corner. Would VAR have went back to the attempt on goal? As looked like Origi was offside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,506 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Maybe if the FA increased the prize money so its more than say finishing in 5th place in the PL, it might gets its mojo back?

Whatever about the top four chasing teams playing weakened sides, mid-table teams doing likewise is a joke.

New phase of play so no. Its those things they need to clean up with VAR application.

You'd think Everton had the kids out, they have been atrocious this second half.

    Super strike.

Great performance by our kids, Everton should just disband after that.

2nd best team in Liverpool is Liverpool reserves/kids by the looks of it

If Carlo wasn't aware of just how much of a sh1tshow he's taken on he does now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Jones is only 18. He wasn't even a twinkle in his father's eye the last time Everton won at Anfield.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,912 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Everton declared record losses today and then had that loss on the pitch not a good day for them.

Carlo might start to wonder what has he gotten into.

I'm not even surpised at the result tbh.

Still trying to figure out why he's there. Surely better offers from bigger clubs.

Carlo done nothing but get sacked over and over lately.
    He is well past it.
Fits right in with this Everton team.
LFC kids took the absolute piss out there.

    Tomorrow before the Monday game

Should Liverpool winning be seen as the upset of the 3rd round?

'Well past it' Ancelotti finished second in Serie A last season, got Napoli into the last 16 of the CL this season, and has beaten Klopp's Liverpool twice in 12 months. The man has had a good start to life at Everton, suffering defeat to Man City and losing at one of the toughest grounds in the sport, Anfield. Hardly a surprise given his resources.

As for these kids, Milner, Adrian, Lallana, Origi, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gomez have all played high-level games for Liverpool. Minamino has been hyped to the rafters. Half the Liverpool team perhaps could be said to fit the description of kids.

The match exposed the deficiencies of Everton. They need to move on half that team as the likes of Schneiderlin, Walcott and Sidibe were useful five years ago but offer little for the future. Calvert-Lewin and Holgate can be decent squad players but not for the first team. Wouldn't be confident in Mina and Pickford either. The loss of Idrissa Gueye has been huge and they've not been able to replace him. Gbamin's injury was a disaster for them. Priority areas are a DM, right winger, CB and striker.

Still well past it and a shadow of his former self.
How long before he is sacked yet again?

In what way is he past it and a shadow of his former self? By virtue of being sacked from a job? By that measurement, almost all coaches in the game are past it given the rate of dismissals. Don't think you really believe what you're saying.

Just seen the Spurs result too with a full strength squad. That's as bad as Everton imo

Big result of the day, Northampton Town into the draw for the fourth round after comprehensive win over Burton Albion, a team from a league above them.

Doesn't happen that often, guaranteed to get a dud draw now rather than a "glamour" tie.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Before today, Williams, Phillips & Larouci had 1 combined appearance for Liverpool first team. Elliot a teenager with a handful of appearances, Jones likewise.

Everton had a full team out, safe for Gomes.

That's the worst derby result for Everton in years. Worse than losing 5-2 or 4-0 like recent years.

Gbamin and Iwobi were missing through injury so not a full team out. Delph didn't start either. And the likes of Adrian, Gomez, Milner, Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Origi have all featured in big games and acquitted themselves well. The match was decided ultimately by a wonder strike.
