Most striking part of the video is how the assailants just casually walk off with not a care in the world.

They know garda are not showing up there.

One of the biggest garda stations in the country nearby too.

I think the local Garda Sargent and Commissioner Harris (I know he is relatively new) should be dragged in front of a committee to explain to us all why it took 10 minutes to respond to an armed daylight robbery (in the biggest tourist trap in the country!). I think it's time we got answers as to why law enforcement does not work in Dublin.

I'm in town most days and can't remember the last time I saw a garda, maybe a few weeks a go.

Yet, walk by Pearse street everyday and you see all the cars parked up.

What are they all doing if they're not out on patrol?

Even some visibility would be a big deterrent but we have pretty much no visibility.

There needs to be a minimum of 10 years sentencing in these cases whether it's the real deal gun or not.

The scrote had a cigarette in his left hand, chances of it being a real gun would be unlikely, however the person being threatened didn't know this and such a threat should be taken as attempted murder.

Await all the response coming - we need to understand crime etc etc. Certain people here don’t want crime punished. I ask anyone here to try to defend our sentencing and judiciary. The criminals are now very aware of how much a joke it has become and hence they are not in the least bit scared of any real sentence.

Ah sure there’s probably a good reason. Dysfunctional family, dad a heroin addict or raised in some deprived area. Anyway they’ll be identified and sent for trail to add to their hundreds of convictions. Quick suspended sentence and whaddya know, they’re up to their scummy ways quicker than you can say “story bud”.

I attended a court session a couple of years back and I was fascinated by one scumbag brought before the judge on assault charges.

The judge didn't even lift his head to look at him. (I can only assume the guy was up before him many times)

Suspended sentence. Off he goes. Took seconds.

It's a revolving door and it's great for the solicitors as well.

That's about it Kermit. Serious re-evaluation of sentencing laws needs to be tackled as a priority by the Law Reform Commission. That and the latitude given to judges to let repeat and serial offenders off with suspended sentences.

The GDPR mantra is totally waffle. GDPR must be the most misunderstood piece of legislation. The reason there is blurring is to avoid a situation whereby the court case is not tainted by trial by media. The Gardai already know who these junkbags are.

Any programme featured on crimecall etc are prefaced by saying "they are persons of interest" or people the AGS would like to "talk to", but again this is only in cases whereby perpetrators are not easily identifiable or already known to AGS..

Same old story, plead guilty or just get representation 10 minutes work with a barrister 600 euro's in the barristers pocket...

600 Euros out of the tax coffers

I guess these tourists have learned a hard lesson and won't be back :(

In most civilised cities you can go to the top tourist spot and, while you may be ripped off, you will be perfectly safe and feel safe.

    Not here.

    It's still bound by GDPR

    It's not though.

It I'm on a public street and someone takes a photo of me using their camera. I have no rights under gdpr to go after the original. It's public.

Where did you learn your gdpr training because it's not accurate.

There's an awful lot of misinformation about gdpr. It's inception and what it's purpose is.

It's just such a pity the original person who recorded it doesn't just release it in to the public domain.

Yes I have studied GDPR, I'm working in the industry. It does not matter that the camera is public. The controllers of personal data must put in place appropriate technical and organizational measures to implement data protection principles.

That's such a load of codswallop, whatever you were studying, chuck the lot in the bin.

Following that logic, Rte are breaking the law by recording and broadcasting the news every night.

They are capturing the identity of the newsreader (personal information) and displaying to the public, i.e. not controlling it.

I wouldn't pay a bit of heed to that nonsense. According to that Rte should have been stopped long ago.

Let's analyse Irish justice in this situation. Assuming GDPR is that there faces should be blurred out.

Said scummer gets nicked, brought to court, suspended sentence and let walk away, no fine, no nothing. Armed robbery.

Takes a case against the media company A for posting his image online. Media company A is dragged over the hot coals, scummer gets 50k for his troubles.

That's Irish justice at the moment. AKA, on the side of the scumbag, because they keep the judges and co in a job.

Justice in Ireland is a joke shop.

More motor bike police probably needed. You cant move around the city a whole lot in a car, particularly in heavy traffic

There needs to be a way of removing judges like Nolan from the bench. He seems to have an issue with jailing Paedophiles and domestic abusers.

Either that or we just end Judicial discretion full stop.

It took ten minutes for the first unarmed Gardai to arrive

God help us if there is a terrorist attack in the city centre
we dont have a police force in the traditional sense. Sir Robert Peel set up the Metropolitan Police in 1829 to patrol the streets of London to PREVENT crime. The role of the police now is to REACT (slowly) once a crime has already occurred. This is a fundamental shift which has happened in Ireland and the UK since the 60s. A Garda cant un-mug you or un-stab you but if they were walking the streets consistently they would be a major deterrent. Look what has happened in London since Mayor Sidiq Khan told the police to cease stopping and searching youths; crime has blossomed.

Completely agree. A crime occurs, you ring them they come so times they don’t. I know someone who was recently mugged on Parnell St, they rang the Gardaí and was told they would respond when they could. They got a call 1hour later asking them where they still at the scene ???? A Gardaí close by on the beat could have sorted this in 20 minutes. How can Drew Harris not see this ?

I was in a store in Dundrum recently which sold airsoft guns, and was surprised at how realistic they look. If they could only be sold in bright neon colours with AIRSOFT written on the barrel, that would help.

Then people would scratch off Airsoft and paint them to look like real guns, if they intended to use them to rob people.

It’s a pretty safe assumption that some random skanger robbing a handbag in Dublin is not wielding a genuine gun.

Yep. Innocent until proven guilty, even if they're blatantly guilty.

It's a shame people falsely accused of sexual crimes don't get the same protection.

Are you always looking to slide such an unnecessary comparison in?

People accused with sexual crimes remain anonymous until conviction in this country.

When it comes to sex crimes I'm sure the number of unreported attacks far exceed and is a more serious issue than false claims.

I hope that course isn't expensive, you'll need to study GDPR some more. From your own link:

This exemption states that the GDPR does not apply to processing of data (such as recording video) by an individual “in the course of a purely personal or household activity”.

Taking pics of people in public doesn't mean you are a data controller and you are exempt from GDPR. There are several categories of activities that are exempt, law enforcement being one and the press is another.

The images are blurred in this instance so as to not prejudice a case.

The junkie is the one paying for the judge's house in cap d'antibes and the senior counsel's house in chamonix.

    And just today NS?

    Suspended Sentence Nolan strikes again.
901 images and 146 videos of child pornography were discovered on a computer and an external hard drive. The majority of the videos showed girls ranging from under the age of 15 and as young as two years old engaged in sexual activity.

Enough for a custodial sentence? Not under Nolan's watch.
Judge Nolan said the mitigating factors in the case were Guerin’s guilty plea, his co-operation with gardahis immediate admissions, his good work history and his lack of previous convictions.

He said he could accept that Guerin had been shamed by the situation and it had caused marital disharmony. He said Guerin was “a well-known man” and was being “publicly shamed”.

Judge Nolan said unfortunately for society and the court cases such as this come before the court “with some frequency”. He said a psychological report before the court stated it was unlikely Guerin would offend in this manner again and it “seems unjust” to imprison him.

    Joke of a country....
