Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

F1 2019 - Round 18 Mexico

So we come to this fantastic track knowing Renault had some driver aids helping their braking system in the last race. But what will make this weekend more interesting? In Mexico it's usually the altitude that effects the cars performance. Will Renault have an engine that will move them up the grid a bit? Will Mercedes suffer, and will Max go for another win?

    image.png

The organisers has put in an extra DRS zone.

    Times for this weekend:

    Friday FP1 16:00
    Friday FP2 20:00

    Saturday FP3: 16:00
    Qualy 19:00

    Sunday Race 19:10

Russell only 2 tenths away from Grosjean, admittedly the Haas looks slow this weekend but still that's impressive

Looked like Bottas took a heavy slap with that barrier

Possible pit lane start for the wingman if the chassis is changed

Why is there no penalty for Max ? , purple sector time after passing a yellow flag.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,498 ✭✭✭Harika

    Max has now been summoned

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,378 ✭✭✭HighLine

So Max was aware Bottas crashed and despite the potential danger, kept his foot down. I like Max but the smirk and laugh at the end is not good to see. He probably knows that he will still have pole if they remove that lap time. Honestly I think he should be disqualified from qualifying just from watching this interview alone.

Even if they delete his last lap, he was still quickest

Max should get a grid penalty - his attitude and defiant stance after the incident is a cause of concern.

Max might know what he is doing but the safety of the other drivers ,Marshalls and Medics should always take precedence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,686 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

Delighted he has been summoned, because he'll get the benefit of showing any throttle lift in the corner. So it'll either show him in the wrong or right, and any penalty will be justified... Which can be a cancelled lap time and grid penalty.

3 place grid penalty for Max. Good decision but still too lenient IMO.

Verstappen stripped of pole position and will have to start fourth.

He walked himself into it. Maybe he'll learn rather than being so brazen!! :D. I bet Horner is livid.

exactly. anyone disobaying these safety rules should have their time for that qualifing session removed . so in this case max should be 10th.

Doubly stupid as he didn't need to complete that lap; This is classic Verstappen - when he seems to have finally matured, he does something idiotic and goes on to boast about it. I'm getting convinced this guy is just genuinely, unmistakably, immensely stupid.

The rules around yellow flags in qualifying were made quite severe a long time ago, well before Bianchi's accident - we're talking about the Schumaher-Hakkinen era; There was one incident where Mika claimed pole position under yellow flags, getting away with it because he "waved his hand in acknowledgement" when he passed the flag zone. It was Monaco 1999, IIRC.

20 years on, neither RB nor Verstappen can feign ignorance about it. Again if my memory serves me well, the 3-places grid penalty is standard for the infringement, but I might be quoting a rule from years ago.

Max still thinks the rule book revolves around him.

Any word on Bottas , I mean it was a fair old shunt , and he sounded rough on the team radio after it . Slow to get outta the car as well.

Poor decision on Max's behalf . Otherwise decent mix up in qualifying , Impressed with the Toro Rosso making top ten but that might because Renault don care too much at the moment . McLaren best of the rest really again they really have turned it around this season but still a gap to the front three and a similar gap to those behind them .

Bottas was okay, he banged his knees together in the initial impact so had some mild pain but he was checked out okay at the medical center afterwards.

    Ms

I only watched the highlights this morning but totally agree that what Max done was stupid and he should have slowed down. Funny some years ago when he first started I would have been delighted that he got punished but without him in F1 I think it would be a lot duller so I am disappointed in him for this.
The penalty was very lenient and really should have been more. He got off lightly. Hopefully he learns from this.

He did seem to get out of the car quiet slow and it looked like he had hurt his ankle the the time.

Who would have drove his car if he had been unable too?

    107% rule
During the first phase of qualifying, any driver who fails to set a lap within 107 percent of the fastest Q1 time will not be allowed to start the race. However, in exceptional circumstances, which could include a driver setting a suitable time during practice, the stewards may permit the car to start.

    Don#t think so

I always found the 107% rule very strange. Why 107% why not 105 or 108 per cent?

Joke of a punishment tbh. If double waved yellows are supposed to be taken so seriously they have to be zero tolerance on piss-taking like that.

Contact between Hamilton and Verstappen. Great start from Sainz, up to P4!

That move from Max on Bottas was a bit impulsive, and he ended up with a puncture. Race ruined because of impatience

Albon on Vettel? This could get interesting!

Bottas was a bit napping in fairness, but yeah - Max was a looooong way behind, it's not even "Ricciardo bomb" territory, it was lucky enough it wasn't a "torpedo" scenario.

Also, strange it's not being shown, but Verstappen kinda passed Kvyat by cutting a corner in the early stages. Obviously Toro Rosso won't point that out...

Saw that, I actually thought a steering issue at first he was that far off.

Ah LeClerc :/ come on!! Would love to see him take Hamilton, should have plenty to get 2nd you'd think
